Audi s4-anyone owned one and can compare to impreza
Currently running a 2004 impreza wagon wrx due to having a dog. Im happy with it but always looking what else is on offer.
I like the Audi s4 around 2003/2004 avant but there pricey and can imagine also pricey to run with a v8.
Has anyone owned one and can compare costs/performance etc between the two.

Indeed.
However I did win a triathlon last year, have done several off road 10k running races (best so far - 5th out of 700) and am an ex competing and sponsored surfer with a 335d Touring... ;-)
Next triathlon is this Sunday. Surfed first thing this morning (double overhead in size) and yesterday afternoon too.

Good man! Cornwall is the place to do all that....... Not a p1ssing contest at all,but I have a 10k for fun this weekend, If I could do a tri with a round pool I would be fine (I cant swim in a straight line) I have the Snowdonia marathon in Oct, and I used to enjoy a surf many years ago down at Hayle. Those days are so gone now though, no waves in Oxon! I do miss the SW. Im no athlete though!
And I dont have a 335D!

Myles - Oxon isn't too far from the SW.
Similar interests - always good to find!
Good luck in the 10k - I don't do many but always enjoy the ones I do. Snowdonia marathon sounds very tough.

I get down to Plymouth (home town) every now and then, and go out running on the moors. The Snowdonia Marathon is my first full marathon, eek! Especially as I have a major IT Band issue at the mo and minimal running/training!. Oh well, the trials and tribulations of the runner.
Yeah, good to see someone who likes to get out and plod.

Did the Six Moor Miles (actually seven miles) two years ago and done a few fairly "full on" terrain running events - really enjoy it. Did some mountain running is SW Ireland - utterly loved it. Such freedom and no kit to go wrong!
Sounds like a mad one on the marathon - hope it goes okay!
Back on topic - if you want a fast (in a straight line) thirsty beast that sounds nice, the S4 of that vintage is fine. If you want a back road fun machine, you'll hate it.

I think that is the problem with the S4, from what I haqve been told. Super smooth to the extent you dont realise the speed you are doing, but (dare I mention it) the twisties is where you have been spoilt.
Difficult to get the balance if the S4 is the kind of car you are after.

Dont know if this counts but i went from 3 Scoobys in total, Spec C and last one was a 350 BHP Hawkeye STi, now have a 06 RS4.
What a car, ie build quality etc and i dont think that it is any worse on MPG than the scooby, insurance was cheaper as well for a car worth 15k more.
Still love the scooby and i once had a loan of my mates chipped 535d Msport saloon, was a great car to drive also. is the S4 quattro????, will make a big difference.
Good luck,
Ps went for a 30 min run taday and i was dying, lol

I had an S4, granted the V6 Bi-Turbo one. VERY quick. Uber Q-car. Going from a classic Scoob to it was an education.
Don't look at ANY S4 if you want a nimble car - they're just too big. Seats are hard, but I loved this aspect.
Very well-specc'd interior that blows the Japs out of the water.
MPG is an issue - the V8 isn't known as a frugal device, but the V6 2.7 BiTurbo wasn't too bad - used to get about 22 mpg across the board.
They do eat tyres though.
The RS4 is (in the newer form) a very good car (they used to use the older RS4 as a pace car - so good that in one Le Mans race IIRC, the lead car had to call race control to ask the pace car to slow down!! )
To be honest, and I don't see the newer V8 N/A car being any different, I sold mine because I got bored.
The V8 isn't very moddable, and deffo not cheaply.
OK, but will I go to Audi? Maybe one day. Maybe.
Just my 2p
