my wife has the 116i M sport 2dr ......child seat will fit in the back no probs , but adults in long trips will suffer ...if you only ever take passengers on short trip it is fine .
build quality is very good though ...but with the "must have" options it will push it over £20K for a new one ( ours cost £22k in sept 09)
i think the Audi A3 would be a better bet if you carry passengers alot !

Thanks for the quick response
The main problem with the Audi is that so far I have yet to drive an Audi I enjoy (passenger lovely, drive NO) and the car is for her indoors to ferry the kids about in style and only a BMW will do. If there was a four seater Porsche convertible then it would be one of those!

lol Trout ..first yr not driving it and second you have the GT3 ..is that not enough man !!!
joking aside why not try the 3 series as there is more room in the back and you might like the drive as well (especially in the M3 DCT 4dr )

Great news!!!
I spoke with her indoors and she said she would MUCH prefer a 1 series convertible to a 911 convertible.
Now there is a relief! I am not accounting for her taste but it is much cheaper!

Child seat fits in the back ok but the front passenger seat needs to be forward quite a bit.
My little one is 20 months and I'm finding the car too small now... Boot isn't great for the pram. Just about to change mine for that reason.

me and the wife had a similar problem and opted for a golf simply for the practicality of the thing. little more space in the back and the boot takes the pram and shopping no problem.

Hoow is the 1 series hatchback for driver space, i'm 6ft4 and considering one of these as my next car, rear seat space isn't really a concern, but is there leg room for us lanky people to drive in comfort?

We have an old BMW 530d Touring that has done 90,000 miles now and we have decided to keep it until it dies. That will be the workhorse. The 1 convertible is a trinket instead of replacing the 5 series.
So the impracticality of the 1 is not such an issue.

James, please bear in mind that Trout did mention he wasn't too fussed about rear leg room. With the front seat on it's rear most position, rear passenger leg room is compramised.

I it is more important that two small kids can fit so some room is important but not adult passengers. And it is only likely to be for shortish trips.
But hey, damn and blast. A weekend around the West End has got her indoors looking wantonly at 911 Turbo Cabs! The ultimate trinket!
She'll be wanting to move to Cannes next!

Seriously it's not a consideration for me as i never have rear passengers, in the car on my own 99% of the time, thanks though

The deed is done!!
Silver (yawn) cabriolet with black leather and a black roof. Surprisingly the missus wanted to get the manual having not driven a manual for years. It certainly suits the nature of the car. Really liked it - fun, small, quality car.
The back is small, two seats, deeply set. Legroom was better than I expected.
