Lovely looking motor mate the original CTR's were a bit manic and really focused (especially compared to the FN2 even the EP3 FN2 =FatN2ugly!) I'm sure you'll have lots of fun

I used to have one in Rare Yellow with almost all extra you could think of spoon headers back, throttle body, Mugen Airbox, Hotwires, unfortunately couldn't get a proper mapper to map it then sold it for a DC5... all type R's are great car

This was a 1.6 VTEC and used the B16B Honda engine producing 185ps @ 8300rpm. Early models had hand built engines and special attention to weld seems/cross sections on chassis in constructing. The EK9 Type R was only a JDM and came in four colours Black/Yellow/White & Silver. There were three types of R released in Japan first the Type R, second the type Rx with lighter parts and thirdly the Type R Race version that came with throw away seats and more cost for less the usual scenario for track cars. Reading about thme they remained as track cars and were converted with mods for tracks accordingly by new owners only limited by their wallet.
In the May 1998 issue of UK's Performance Car, a true JDM Honda Civic Type-R was tested in a special hot-hatches feature. A listing of some of the critical standing acceleration numbers are as follow(it was a standard car):
Distance Time 0-60mph : 5.7 seconds 0-100mph: 17.5 seconds 0-1/4mi 15.0 seconds at 94mph Top speed was not tested as all JDM Hondas are speed limited to around 180-190kph.
From standard car it is very easy to get it up to 220BHP and with lightening wheels and other mods some good gains can be achieved due to power to weight ratio!
Hope this info helps.

This car was about 60,000 when my son bought it
Your average B16B gets between 165-172BHP approx
You would need to build/buy a B20vtec and hope to get it to around 210WHP/250fly HP approx but B20 standard without ECU work, etc I would hope to hit 190/195bhp approx but far better torque over B16B
Buying and fitting a B18C (with stock airbox & 4-1 manifold and full 2.5" exhaust system) should be getting around the 195-200 mark approx.
Then there is the matter of bolt on Spoon ECU as one option or remapping which I have no actual figures to relay but have seen some and cannot authenticate depends on mapper/dyno etc. Not to mention question on custom map over out the box ECU.
I am still trying to find a read out on a B16B or B18C Spoon Blueprinted Engine though at £3000 is an option than rebuild or swap from donar engine and all its past history not known if you were going down a track car route. I like engine swap route B18C well within my capabilities and simpler excercise though in Spoon engine scenario you need to send your old engine at additional cost etc back to them in Japan this is against selling your B16B locally.
So all is question of what you are willing to spend before the notion strikes you a Evo is a better option. In my sons case it will be trying to get 170 to 190(hope) depending on mods or mapping/chip and keeping it standard B16B until he can get realistic quotes on insurance for a Evo he aspires to.

Yea I wouldn't concentrate on the power, I'd upgrade the brakes, not fit coilover suspension but maybe some springs, braces and uprate bushes and roll bars to the suspension and just enjoy it for what it is.
I had a '00 EK9 Type RX which I bought from a friend that had spent a LOT of money on the car, full spec list is here: http://www.ek9.org/forum/cars-sale/1...mega-spec.html
I loved the car but it was just too manic for my needs and I couldn't live with it on the motorway and on long journeys which was a shame but such is life.
Cheers,
Grant

Nice EK9 and specifications, having gone over it with the lad I think he is tending to go the route of exhaust/manifold/brakes/tie bars front and back.
He did get offered a carbon bonnet swap for his own, I am not as keen even with the weight saving.
