The R8 gets very understeery in the tight stuff. Not bad for a GT though.

I still am partial to the 993 GT2, but this seems a good'un.

Did you notice the turbo cab was faster than the GT3RS round the TG track.

I did notice that! I was surprised at their 0-60 times though.

The tin-top Turbo S did 0-62 in 2.9s using the launch control. Hard to believe that the cab would be so much slower - maybe it doesn't have launch control as hairdressers can't cope with so many buttons

And I'm not biting re your other comment

And the GT2RS is £165K.... so put your investment in that instead of a vulture farm.

EVO magazine said the Turbo S (must've been the S) was the most aggressive car off the line that they've ever tested, including the VW Veyron

On the evo site - the standard Turbo does 0-60 in 3.9s with Chris Harris drinking a bottle of Coke

Glyn (!) did a superb job.
He started about 8:45 am and I left him about 7 pm! Definitely got my moneys worth.

Makes washing the car so easy now - it still looks almost as good now as when he did it.
I also had 6 little car park dings taken out by his dent-man mate at the same time.

You are right it is Glyn - I was having a moment! Glad he did a good job for you. He is very fussy! If I had known you were still there at 7pm I would have come over for a nosey!

You quoting Clarkson there from Sunday?

As a regular R8 driver myself (Sadly not mine though) and having had a few track days in Audi's own R8's, I can honestly I've never got understeer in an R8 yet.

If you do get understeer, then you really are driving too hard/fast for a given corner, and vertually every other car would be understeering at the same time. Even a GT3.

We had an R8 and my GT3 at Teeside Autodrome a couple of weeks ago which does have a very tight section. We had the whole place to ourselves for some driver training.

The driver was Andy McKenna - look him up.

It is painful to try and get the R8 through the tight section - it is owned by one of the developers of the Autodrome and he thinks it is a bit of a pig in the tight stuff. We were all having a laugh at the Audi R8 advert with it understeering like an oil tanker around the other cars.

So not quoting Clarkson, quoting the owner and his driving trainer of choice.

The GT3 did not suffer from the same problems and Andy (and I) thought it was sweet in the tight section.

I guess if you are a regular driver and do not think this car understeers then you ain't getting anywhere near it's limits.

Driving to the limits = no understeer.
Driving over the limits = Understeer in any car.

I drive fast but within the limits of the car and myself.

So on the one hand we have: -

Andy McKenna - professional driver
R8 owner and rally driver
Audi's own advert
Trout
Matteeboy

On the other hand

Teesside Autodrome is a kart track.

Obviously your professional rally driver friend prefers an Audi R8 to a @rse engined beetle.

So let's go back to the beginning for the hard of thinking...

Yes it is a tight track, and yes this is what I am making my comparative judgement on. Not a second hand comment from a TV personality, an actual R8 in a real situation.

And when the owner of the R8 says what I quoted above you would think it probably had some truth. But he is happy with it as a fast GT car - just prefers something else on the circuit.

To dismiss Teeside as a kart track is also foolhardy. The MLR - well known for liking to think they are kings of the handling circuit, run a national sprint series. On August 6th it is at Teeside - the International Circuit. A circuit they describe as by far the best sprint circuit of the whole series.

It's still a kart track though. Been round it many times, and probably there next month, all being well.

2 cars side by side will be very tight indeed. Especially 2 cars racing each other.

Stilover - why not talk about your (nice) car rather than bang on about your Dad's all the time?!

I hardly hear mentions of the Zed yet I hear about the R8 in almost every thread!

Zip and Trout own their Porkers - makes a big difference.
