Some Pics of my 2.2 Pulsar GTi-R
I took my car to a couple of locations today for some photos which my mate Andy took with his nice expensive camera - apologies for how dirty she is! We took over 180 photos in total so I've just selected a few nice ones and resized them for you to have a peek at;

I love these but it isnt for the looks ! does look like a classic Scoob from the front though.
Saw one at Oulton park, good god it was quick, blitzed everything but then broke on the last lap, gear box I think, would imagine that the cheap/fast brigade have done with tem and the decent examples are now quite collectible.

Cheers bud!
Thanks
Yeah - they're not the prettiest cars in the world, but I think that's part of the charm. They're ugly, aerodynamically retarded yet for some reason super quick. Awesome cars.
The Pulsar at Oulton was the DD Motorsport car, the driver did a 4th to 1st which blew the box to bits - he's hoping he managed to dip the clutch in time to save the engine but we're still waiting to hear about it.
White ones are very rare now and extremely sought after, here's how she looked 6 months ago;
She was running 395bhp and 411ft/lbs at 1.7bar on a GT28RS turbo on the previous tune but I've since fitted a GT3076R-EWG and after a remap (which I'm saving for) I'm expecting 510-530bhp at 2bar.

Do love the GTI-R's though mechanically fragile in standard form what gearbox are you running now? Have you kept the standard one and uprated it or gone for something different?
Tony
PS, isnt blue the rarest colour for these?
#11
I'm running a standard box for the moment - it's handled the power well so far, you just have to treat it kindly (ie, no launching). It also helps that I don't drive it much, I use the Impreza day-to-day and play with the R at weekends if I get a chance. I'm saving for a Quaife Gearkit which I want to get built into a cryo treated casing, it'll handle the power just fine, but I wouldn't trust it with too many launches!
They were never produced from the factory in blue paint, the actual rarest colour is Winter Green as seen on the R34GTR V-Spec Nur. However white ones are very few and far between these days, Ivory being even rarer.

I bet it was the same day, was it a field of random stuff like a 944 and god knows what getting mullered by said black Pulsar that expired near the end, totally epic noise with obligatory dump valve chirrup, front end pointing skyward ?

Lovely example, These are very week but looking at your mods list you have strenthened it to the max congrats.
Shame its not a GTi-R but they are as rare as rocking horse now.
( just to explain a GTi-r is a uk spec pulsar ) But they still call them a GTi-R.
Lovely exapmle tho mate

It would have been in 2001 2002 when I was there. As you say lots of different cars.

I know how you feel mate.
I moved there when I was two, lived there until I was thirteen, returned when I was 23 and finally left when I was 28 (10 years ago this year).
Still have lots of close family and some fantastic friends there.
It's the first place I'm taking my 600bhp V3 Type R when it's run in and mapped properly. I have a score to settle with an Escort Cossie from Carisbrooke LOL

Also, if the Cossie is White, it could be the one that spat a wheel off on the dual carriageway and ended up wrongside of a pole. Hopefully not though, I want to see your Type-R in the flesh!

Nice car mate, and top spec too, bet that will seriously shift once mapped, good luck with the gearbox though. Glad to see people still flying the flag for the R's.
I miss my Pulsar Gti-R, I had one for 8 years, polished to an inch of its life it was running close to 350bhp in the end but that was quick enough to do a 12.2 1/4mile and I was too afraid to launch it any harder, there was a 11 in there somewhere. More important it was joy on the road, mapped for low lag it use to be fantastic fun on the right roads, mongoose popping and banging, except for a transfer box braking it was fairly reliable too unlike others (my brother had one with endless problems), but there was always a worry something would go wrong during my ownership.
To be honest I wouldn't mind getting another but they are old now and so many are money pits. I'd probably get a cheap one and just run her down to the ground, there arn't many faster cars for the money.
I admire the people who stick at it, and will always cheer them on at events as I am fed up seeing imprezas and evos everywhere (as fast as they dominate it), good to see a change, its exciting to see Craig's DD Autosport "Pikes Peak" looking special to be running well in the time attack, it looked quicker enough with just 400bhp at Oulton before they broke it with human error so I'd love to see it running again once its setup properly with 650bhp+ and 1000kg, even if it is over-the-top ugly.

A good friend of mine used to own a yellow gravel edition if my memory serves.....it had 15" steel rims and some wierd switch gear on the dash on the passenger side....
Unfortuneatly it never did run quite right and there was no specialist near enough so he sold it on at a loss...
I seem to recall it having a rear cage that looked almost factory fit....

It's a lovely place, the roads are perfect for our kinds of car - especially good old Military! I'd get down sooner rather than later though, errosion is threatening it's closure. We may well know some of the same people bud - who are your friends?
Also, if the Cossie is White, it could be the one that spat a wheel off on the dual carriageway and ended up wrongside of a pole. Hopefully not though, I want to see your Type-R in the flesh!

I had an MR2 Turbo back in my IOW days but last time I was there I was in my 400bhp RB5 about 5 years ago. Cant wait to get the R down there.

Cheers bud, a lot of blood sweat and tears have gone into it!
Cheers
The gearbox will fail, it's a ticking time bomb. However I'm saving for a Quaife gearkit (although I've done some more research and am considering a PAR set instead).
They're definitely getting old, but there are a select few that have been rebuild from the ground up on the owners forum that will handle whatever you throw at them. It's a shame really, 90% of them are past their best, but as you said, you won't get a faster car for cheaper!
I think Bob at GTi-R-Us currently owns this car, used to belong to a fella called Stu.
Get back down here bud, I'm sure we'd have plenty to talk about.
Thanks!
Cheers fella, maybe one day you will!
Cheers
