Default Pick up trucks

Looking for a tow vehicle and was thinking about a pick up, ok so whats hot and whats not? what do you recommend for 10-15k?

So far have been thinking about the

Mitsubishi L200

Nissan Navara

Isuzu Rodeo

From what I've gathered so far on my wee info hunt, the L200 has reliability problems well the older ones anyway, the Navara seem to have crank problems when around the 50K miles area and the Isuzu has an interior that makes the Impreza look like a 5 star hotel

What do you guys recommend then?

Over here basically 70 % of sales are pick ups and the top three sellers are :

Dodge Ram 1500/2500/3500

Ford F150/250/350

GMC Sierra /Chevrolet Silverado

Any Japanese Trucks/Pick ups are scorned upon basically because there not made in the US , Although some of them are made in Canada.

Not sure on availability on the above Trucks in the UK , But they would be top of my shopping list.

I myself have a Dodge RAM 3500 with a 5.9 Cummins Diesel

We dont get any of the above, well at least not with the steering wheel on the right hand side of the car

Dodge Ram with a 5.9 Cummings would be perfect for towing though, bags or torque I would assume!

Yeah mine as over 600lbs of torque and can tow up to 14000 lbs or more if the trailer is a fifth wheel

The truck I swapped it for (Dodge Ram 1500 with 5.7 V8 petrol ) was a ***** in comparison

The Nissan gets some very bad press over here as well and I dont think we have the other 2.

Been reading up on the Navara for the last hour (Google is my friend lol ) and safely say I will rule that one out. I forgot to add the Ford Ranger and the Toyota Hilux to my list though. so now reading up on these.

i have owned all three
old shape l200 though
have the navara now in auto, superb for towing
but ****e build quality
fuel economy is always around 22mpg
the best put together was the rodeo
but i had to spend 10k on specking it up

next one for me will be a toyota or back to a rodeo

How was the Rodeo compared to the L200 and the Toyota then?

Think I'm swaying towards the Rodeo for now at least.

I think the L200 is the 2.5 which has been around forever and it's not very good. The isuzu seem to be pretty decent but i'd go for the toyota for reliability.
Don't think the ford rangers are very good either.

FRom what I can gather the new model of L200 is a little more reliable than the old one but still not 100%, it does look good though

I've got the Isuzu, had it from new, done 50,000 miles and only had one warranty claim (bad batch of glow plugs).

I've really enjoyed it and will certainly look at getting another this year.

I don't like the new L200, Hilux was too basic (also no legroom) and enjoyed a Navara for a couple of days, but went with the Isuzu because it drives as good as any of the others, looks better imo and I got better money for my Legacy in p/x.

Nice, what are the interiors/comfort like with these?

Any particular model better/worse than others

I have an L200 Raging Bull edition.

Had it from new and done 40,000 miles. I can't fault it, it came into its own during the snow and got me anywhere I wanted to go. (even picked up half of the workforce up in it who couldn't get in)

Not the best picture, but the only vehilce that left our street!

I was thinking a Hilux Invicible would be worth looking at (although not sure on prices) i had a Landcruiser Colarado which is basically the same vehicle, and that was brilliant for towing, with an auto box and cruise control, if i still needed the off road ability i would have bought another one.

Mate has a 05 Mitsi - nothing but trouble and has cost some 4K+ in repairs to the engine - basically a new engine i think due to spitting a piston from memory - google them as i understand they have some common faults - he loves the thing but it is a money pit.

For me it would be the Toyota

Have deffo ruled out the Mitsu and the Nissan now (which is a pity cause IMO they looked the best), so that leaves the Toybota and the Isuzu which are not so good looking, this is going to be one of decisions that comes down to silly little things like interior/comfort/mpg etc

Anyway whats the road tax on these things like?? (given todays climate this should have been one of the first things I asked )

Don't know about the road tax on them Dunc but i've been told the mot for them is or has changed from what regular cars get to a more commercial type thing. I'm sure of the current owners can confirm or correct this.
