Jaguar S Type "R"
Just purchased one and need to express my excitement over it. Bear in mind i have been down the same route as many on here ie, M5 E39, M3 E36 and E46, LCR,GTIR X 3 all over 350 bhp, GTO, 9 yes 9 Imprezas from standard classics to blobeyes, most modified, the last being a monster see garage. So not a stranger to big bhp/torque.
I just feel i have chasing the ace never to really find it, if that makes sense, all the jap cars have been big money pits with lots of heartache attached and not lots of gain
Well this Jag has swept me off my feet with its overall stats, ok i have got to fall for its old man looks, not the prettiest i know, but look over that and boy is it a blast, 4.2 V8 Supercharged auto 6 speed. The power delivery is immense and relentless, it really is no stress whatever you chuck at it, just had the new software installed to gearbox ecu as it is a self learning one and did'nt like my driving style over previous owner
Bought with full stamped Jag history with an extended warranty so very happy with that! The Computer Technology Suspension works excellent and in Sports mode (lets engine rev higher) with all the ESP TC switched off is just superb, especially with the monster Jag big R spec brakes front and rear with Brembo discs and pads as standard! Only recently got the car so still learning its personality and drive, but so far it is such an unsung hero, top spec, top engine, top drive, struggling to find any faults at present, but sure i will!
One full tank gone of 95 ron returned 370 miles £60 to fill and did'nt go easy, well chuffed
Never see anything of these rare animals on here so thought would just share my views. May put some pics up soon when all nice and clean.

Sorry not had chance to take any yet, only washed today. Having to much fun driving it.
I know a lot of people on here rave about the E39 M5, dont get me wrong it is a great car, i owned a 2000' one for around 9 months, it just did not do it for me, imho this R runs rings around it, but its all about personal preference i suppose, think its the Eaton Supercharger whining and blasting you out of the back seat on full chat! Looking at some full de-cat stainless to unleash the sound of the howling V8!

I know its such a breath of fresh air in standard form! Loving it even though not getting out as much as like as working (in a Transit ).
My cousin got me on to them, as he purchased a brand new XKR 5.0, ****e, how insane are they? Let me have have a go at Brands and the torque is just out of this world, i switched all the safety crap off and turned all the sports on, the damn thing started wheelspinning at 95 when buried right foot, i know mine is fairly tame in comparison.
What other car can deliver all this at such relatively cheap costs?

Just sold mine after 3 years and 60k miles. Bought it as an ex demo (6k miles) and ran it for three years. Great car, and the rumours of fragile engines relates to the 4.0 litre units, not the 4.2. Something to do with one of the pulleys at the top end I believe, and there was a factory upgrade to fix it. Only issues I had were trim and electrical. The electrical related to the iPod connection. It stopped working, threw a wobbler and knocked out the sat nav and a significant part of the dash. How I laughed. I laughed more when the dealer took 6 months to fix it properly. For servicing I found a great independent and used them instead.
The trim was less amusing – travelling down the A1 at between 140 and 150 mph (that’s the Autobahn to Bremen, not the road from York to Hatfield) the window surround from the back door came adrift. The noise of the loose rubber smacking furiously against the rear wing sounded not unlike a tyre delaminating. Had a sphincter like a rabbit’s nose for a while there I can tell you!
Fully agree on the performance though. Never failed to amuse me, although the running costs weren't great. Having no LSD caused a good deal of wheel spin when, ahem, 'pressing on', and having 19" 'Barcelona' alloys on mine meant a £400 bill for two rears every 12k miles. That, and the warranty expired, meant it was time to change. Having a couple of years with a diseasel scooby to refill the coffers (both financially, and with brownie points from the missus) before buying something silly again......
