Time to sell the impreza and buy ?
Just thought I ask you venerable lot for opinions:
I have a impreza wrx sl- wagon. Beautiful car- black, full leather, heated seats etc bought from Subaru by myself. Been faultless- which is more than most vehicles.
Finding it a bit too small now with a family, plus fuel costs.
The 4 x 4 has always been handy, non more so than over Christmas. I live near Haworth- W.Yorks which was tough in the snow. The car was staggeringly good in the snow and never got stuck once. Its very hilly around here !!!!
Been chatting with Subaru: very tempted by a legacy diesel for about 18K/19K.
other options: 5 series bmw- but there is no 4 x 4, Audi A6 quattro, volvo V70 awd, what else ? looked at lexus- but they're all saloons, not 4 x 4 and the rear seats don't fold.
I don't need a 4 x 4 range rover/X5/pick up truck vehicle as they aren't fuel efficient enough and I'm not a farmer going up farm tracks to have any use of the ground clearance and thus poor handling.
I cycle loads, so its essential to get my bike in the boot (whip front wheel off) and it goes in the wagon in one go currently.
anything else out there before I buy a legacy ?

Legacy isn't bad but it's pretty slow in diesel form.
Is 4WD essential? An older BMW Touring will be better on fuel and bigger. Audis always hold value but are OTT price wise. An outside option is an Octavia 4x4 estate.

audi all road has the highest warrenty claims of all such vehicles
skoda- well - NAH - dull dull dull. my sister has an octavia and its very nice but its nothing special. engine went ping at 60 K too. thank god my brother in law is an aerospace engineer and could fix it for parts cost himself.
I like the look of a 5 series estate. really really do.
a legacy is quicker and better on fuel than a 520d.- just I think. maybe not.
even looked at x5 briefly- but economy is rubbish, as is performance.
as I say- I've no need for fast cars- I can't chuck the car about like a yoof with my dtr in the back. driving has really got spoilt with cameras everywhere too.
diesel/petrol at 1.10 now- its all about economy.
can't bring myself to buy a prious !!!!!!
4 x 4 essential. sadly my father was in hospital (intensive care) right over xmas, new year. would have been impossible to get to him with the scooby- picking stuck family up etc. I would have got to him on my mountain bike- alas not my 75 yr old mother. never realised how much I needed it. I know its kinda a one off- but still.
kinda talked myself into it
