new focus rs
one of these in our car park today. am i right in thinking this is the 300hp machine all fwd? how does it fair and has anyone driven one. no big brakes on the front, but it looks low enough to suggest it might handle well.
opinions, stories, praise, slagging. all contributions welcome.

Was reading in Evo magazine that no RS has ever achieved the quoted 300bhp on the rollers yet. More like 280bhp.
I'm a massive Fast Ford fan, but for the money (Approx £30k) i'd buy a Scirocco R. If it was an every day car that is.

Saw one in Cirencester the other day, I thought "ohhh..a new RS, 1st one I've seen in the flesh, looks good..." then it came past and I saw the rear... far to "in your face" with ott exhausts and carbon deffuser ... I'm 20 years too old for that look... I'd feel like a right plonker driving it).
Front: Spot on
Rear: Trying too hard

Very strange thing with the RS - I saw pics in white and green and much preferred the white.
I saw a white one last week and thought it looked VERY plasticky and a bit naff.
Saw a green one today and for some reason thought it looked much better in that colour.
Strange.

sinky - not that I'd buy one, but have you ever saw this video - it was posted on here a little while ago.
YouTube - FORD FOCUS RS 2009 IN ACTION!
Seems to handle alright - in the dry anyway
Anyway, wonder if these 3 are on autotrader

The clio is no RS and anybody who thinks it is is deluded, its like saying a 370z is like a 911
The rear defuser is not carbon
Most RSs will make 295+bhp if on 99 ron and most are still on low miles
If you got an RS when they first came out they were 25k (now from 27K ) you would be lucky to find one cheaper now 6 months later for less so definetly no white elephant
standard running 301bhp modded running 370bhp GGR remap
ITS A GREAT CAR

Plus, I never said a 370Z was like a 911. That was matteboy. So there !!
End of day, on normal roads with normal (us) drivers, a Clio is just as quick as a Focus RS, which is just as quick as a 370Z, which in turn will be just as quick as a 911.
Only on a drag strip or a racing circuit do any cars strengths show themselves.
But lets just be clear about one thing though Paul. The 370Z is faster than a Focus RS.

3rd gear would be a piece of cake.
If you look at that dyno - peak torque is VERY late for standard turbo imho. In fact it's 1000rpm later than my GT3071R on a 2.3.

I had a test drive in the local Ford dealers RS demo and was really impressed - felt very quick and the handling was great.I would have one in a second.
Wouldnt even consider a Renault after the wifes Megane - what a piece of cheap unreliable plastic French crap it is.

Wife has an old megane (53 plate) as a run around and considering how many miles it's done (not many) I'd agree with the above... however we've also had two sporty clios from new.... the secret is to sell them before everything starts to rattle / fall off But seriously both clios didn't have a single problem with

Passenger seat squeaked very badly. All the dealers mechanic's were deaf and said they could hear any squeaking . Took 3 different mechanics for 1 to actually say "Yeah that's bad".
Glove box never fitted properly. 8 trips to the dealers over that, and it still wasn't fixed.
Steering wheel was off centre from day one. Asked why no one noticed on the pre-check test drive, I just got shrugged at. The steering wheel was at 1 O'clock.
I was lied to my face by the dealer over other things. One being when I dropped it off for some work to be done under warranty. Was told to come beck in 1 hour and pick the car up. Came back after 1.5 hours to find the car in the exact same spot as when I parked it. Walked in, asked if it was fixed. 2 minutes later a mechanic ran out, jumped in my car, and drove into the workshop. The service manager came out and told me, they were still working on it. After pointing out what I'd just seen he just shrugged his shoulders.
The cars are cheap and nasty, and the dealers are w@nkers.

I think this car has been a mistake by Ford myself. Its a kind of "XJ220" of the hatch back world. Looked great as a concept, but did not really cut the mustard in the real world... then just after launch the banks go up their own **** meaning not quite as many sales as expected.
It will be interesting to see how well its selling next year...

I'm not quite sure why people are so negative about it now.
Almost every review has been epic, the owners seem to love them and they seem to be in reasonable demand.
I think they should be quicker than they are (and lighter too) but they seem to cope with the power remarkably well and lap times have been very good showing the chassis is competent enough. Not quite my cup of tea but they are certainly eyecatching and fairly practical.

Have to totally agree about the Renault dealers as well - the wifes Megane had to be recovered last January when something on the ignition system packed in.After being told it was fixed we went to get it and the battery was flat and guess what they didnt have a new one in stock. Also had the central locking pack in and the electric sunroof wont work either. Also it has the cheapest, nasty most easily marked interior I have ever seen - right rant over.
Against my advice my brothers wife bought a Clio 197 (08 reg) that is currently waiting to get a new glove box and heater fitted under warranty and as soon as thats fixed its getting traded in for a new shape Fiesta.
