Poor fuel economy and the interiors ain't that grand either, no image to speak. But mostly its a Vauxhall with a 5.7/6.0 V8, its going to depreciate.....

They are good cars, hell of a lot of car for the cash, but as said, Vauxhall badge spoils its image.

I regularly get 22 mpg out of mine (6.0)

Mines is up for sale as I want to upgrade to the VXR 8

Gotta say, I've got a MAJOR soft spot for these

Such a shame that they're not a hatch, otherwise I would have it in a shot.

**** the economy and the planet - you're a long time dead!!

Everybody petrolhead should own one once.

Upsides: plenty.

Downsides: plenty too.

RWD, V8 power.
I doubt that mainstream manufacturers will be making for much longer.
As long as your annual mileage isn't huge then bollocks to mpg.
Wouldn't want to look back and see a V8 opportunity missed.

Is the Tax on these things £460?

Also, I did think they were a hatch - by a comment above I would assume they are not?

They do look like a hell of a lot of car for very little money - reliable or not?

Yeah the road tax is the top bracket, around £410 iirc. The earlier ones are around £200 cheaper to tax.

Why does everyone think the mpg is rubbish? I bet most tuned Scoobys would struggle to get 22 mpg around town.

But no none hatchback were ever made.

They are reliable, mines has been fault free, mechanicals are built to last, but driving one takes a bit getting used to. Steering, gear change all feels heavy to start with - especailly after my last car which was an Evo 8 MR. Excellent once you get used to it though. It just eats up the miles on long journeys. Very comfortable! Suspension is a bit soft but there are upgrades available. It would totally transform the car.

Spares can be expensive though. eg: a pair of brake discs can set you back £500

As said, every petrolhead needs to own a V8 at least once!

Most of the people who asked me about mine didn't realise it was a Vauxhall, despite the badge.

This is why they are so cheap

Insurance, tax ( £400odd ) and hunger for rear tyres forced me to live in it for a short while. Fuel costs wasn't that bad; It will run on 95 Ron and match the Impreza's fuel economy.

Seeing the boot was totally useless for anything sizeable (late model with the relocated fuel tank), the passenger footwell is the "boot". Rear seats were the bedroom, plenty of space back there; You can even stand up to get changed (albeit bent over)

Cup holders have multiple uses, from ipod holders, to holding coffee jars with my special home made pickling vinegar, its a secret receipe - I use it to clean engine parts, here you see it pickling a gunged up fuel tap off a 1948 Scott flying Squirrel. Going for a spirited drive helps aggitate the cleaning solution.

The cup holder can also be used as a centrifuge, just put your sample in the cup holder and do some doughnuts

You also need to be slightly mad to own one, that might explain some of the above

I have owned the 5.7 v8 and the vxr500 6.0 v8 . The vxr 500 had 540bhp, which is completely pointless in the wet . The car sounds amazing with the wortec exhaust and supercharger. Great dry day car, no good up here in Scotland. sold it after 8 weeks and bought a wr1

I could appreciate that I found 400bhp was usless in the wet, so 540bhp would be even more useless Struggling to pull away using second gear out of a busy junction is not my idea of fun. The OEM Pirelli P-Zero Rossos are lethal at this time of year though, the Contisport 3s I had after were much improved, but still a nightmare.

How does a vxr500 compare to the WR1? Is the perforamance difference very noticeable? In the dry of course

The Monaro was a good bit quicker than the subaru, in the dry. Power was instant with the supercharger , not good when going round a corner and putting the foot down though. Would recommend getting one as a summer car only , not everyday car in my opinion.
