Default This week.......Scirocco

Went to pick up my weekly hire car last night, jackpot, new Scirocco and it's 2.0 GT TSi 210ps to boot.
Quite nice all round if a bit uninspiring. It certainly looks the part, decent cabin if a bit small (and I'm only 5'8). Power delivery is smooth with no real turbo kick.

Would need to add a few bits to if I was going to buy one and that would put it in the 25-26k bracket, which I just couldn't bring myself to spend.

Had a few Golf 2.0 TDi for hire recently and I found them to be not much slower than the Scirocco.

So although the Scirocco is nice to look at, if I had to get my wallet out, it would be the Golf, couldn't justify the extra spend for the nicer looking Scirocco.

But the Scirocco is cheaper....

GT - £21,450-23,660
GTI - £23,015-24,905

Got the car from Hertz, I have spent a fortune with them in the past (in the days of full expenses) and so I am in the Presidents Club (ooooooooo I here you say). Basically I get a free upgrade.
I have got know the girls at the desk, I am quite a nice fellow and happy to have a blether with them and don't give them any grief if I have to wait a bit until they sort out paperwork etc.
In turn they are always on the lookout for the best car available and keep it aside for me. I book a Mondeo (Group D), but have never actually had one.
Picked it up on Monday and the girl was all excited when I came up the the desk couldn't wait to tell me what I had

Anyhoo, took it out for a blast last night and it is growing on me. It is certainly faster than I first thought, but still not as quick as I would like. It is however the first ever quick FWD car I have driven, not sure I like it, it feels weird, probably because the front wheels are doing everything and I am not used to that.

Other cars I have had frokm Hertz:

Golf GT TDi 2.0
Mondeo ST220 TDCi
Alpha Brera 3.0 V6
Merc CLC220
Passat BlueMotion (61mpg average)

all for the price of a Mondeo, i.e. <£100 Mon -> Friday

With the suspension lowered and a revo upgrade (282 bhp and 313 lbft) it's a lot better! trust me i should know...

If only vw had made a 4wd model!

I don't like the Brera at all but that's still another serious motor for a rental company to hire out!! ST220 not bad either.

Had many upgrades from Enterprise (had a four month gap between cars when the R32 was vandalised and had to be sold) but not quite that impressive.

Usually go for a reasonable hatch level but have had:

Vectra Estate 1.9CDTi Elite (quite well specced and huge)
Nissan X Trail - top end model with leather and satnav
Civic S Type
Nissan Quashqui (sp?) - higher spec but utterly hateful vehicle.

Also been upgraded a few times abroad - usually to a metal folding roof cab of some description.
In Oz we went for Daihatsu Sirion spec and got a Ford Falcon 4 litre!

Switchable map with race fuel. I know someone with the same map and mods who been on a rolling road and got those figures but it's not the bhp thats important it's the torque!

Revo quote 270 to be on the conservative side i think. Different rolling roads will produce different figures though.

It has the potential for 450 bhp plus but that would be a lot of money and just crazy in a FWD car
