Default Fiesta RS turbo

anybody on here had one or got one? whats the general opinion on them? i loved them when they first came out and have seen a minter for sale totally standard bar a full magnex system with only 46k on the clock. love the recaros and the fact they r easily tuned with loads of parts available, quite fancy one to use on my short journey to work and back. i did have a xr2i years ago which was standard with low miles but to be honest it was pretty awful to drive, rolly polly suspension, heavy non assisted steering and with the 1.6 cvh injection and 105bhp tbh was really not a quick car by any means. however the turbo has 130bhp standard, and with a chip and few other add ons would easily see around 180 i reckon. any thoughts people?

Like yourself had the old original xr2i which strangely enough I actually liked !! drove it everywhere for years and can honestly say it very rarely let me down in all that time. problem in the end was not the engine but the dreaded rust, the fiesta rs turbo no doubt suffering this very same condition ie. finding what that does not have major rust issues would mean spending more than you would comfortably pay for a car off this age.

seeing escort / fiesta rs turbos in mint condition for upards off 5k in some instances, just check the back off performance ford / fast ford magazines for real world examples. personally feel paying anything less than this could well mean big trouble.

also remember that 130bhp is nothing compared to some off your new family runarounds these days so possibly not as quick as your dreams would have you think !!

pity as always did fancy a superchiped fiest rs turbo, would surely make an interesting drive !!

yeah i know 130bhp just isnt enough and i would have to chip it. the one in question is up for 3400 wouldnt pay more than 3k though, reckon it would hold its value well though. i know i could get another scooby for this money but as a stop gap want something small and quick and turbo'd. and next scooby will be a v6 type r around 6k mark not another uk classic or 4dr sti, want a 3dr!

I had a escort turbo about 5 years ago and it saw 180 bhp no probs with filter and exhaust and the boost turned up, the fiestas injectors can be changed for cossie ones where the escort couldn't. As already said the good old rust, common spot is around the filler cap. I think most will agree they were good years ago, A friend of mine still has one and that stays in his garage all the time as every time it goes out its ends up with problems and on the axle stands when he gets back. His spec is really big its a 2.1 zvh with all the mods and is about 250 bhp and does 1/4 mile in 14 seconds,

yeah i had an escort turbo years ago as well, was standard bar mongoose exhaust and filter. i just like the old school ford rs's, and i know a pampared standard one wouldnt lose a lot of money, and its rare and i would keep it mint, ill have to take a look at it. cheers.

I had the XR2I 16V and then swapped that for the RS1800. Which i think was the follow on to the RS Turbo. Rust around the filler cap, and awfull brakes with heavy stearing. But everyone loves the old fast Fords and they still fetch good money if in good condition.

250hp in a car as light as that and only running 14's, doesnt quite add up to me

poor traction off the line most likely. the throw on the gear change is quite long iirc as well. all adds up on the 1/4 mile.

The Fiesta has a small turbo: raising the power isnt easy as its close to its pumping limit already.

I had a nice J plater back in the day, good fun car. The turbo is very small, T2 IIRC & gives power very low down, however they run out of puff When things start to get interesting. The other problem is they don't come with the limited slip differential that the Escort Rst had & this means torque steer is even more pronounced.

All of these negatives aside I would still have one if it were mint.

but the t3 off the escort rs are plentyfull and cheap. not as straight forward bolt on though iirc. they need a little altering. cossie management, bigger injectors and away you go.

I had a Fiesta RS turbo 1.6 litre running a Garrett stage 3 T3 turbo making 180 bhp and it was great fun to drive and capable of suprising bigger more powerful cars. The brakes suffered from brake fade if used for a long period but I never knew quite how bad they were. Until I changed the car for a EP3 Honda Civic type R, so I really should have opted for better brakes on the RS before increasing the power.

went in a 200bhp fiesta turbo not long ago, surprised me to say the least

under 1000kg and 200bhp will be quick around the streets for sure

I had one a few years back (2003ish). Bought it from Scoobyclinic.
2.1 ZVH with a T3 Turbo and various other extras, had it rolling road tested at 260bhp. Was an absolute animal.
Had a newage Impreza interior (seats and door cards).
Unfortunately was painted in a silly flip paint (Green, blue, gold, purple) with an Impreza bonnet vent

I was young and thought it looked good at the time

Got some pics somewhere I can post up if anyone interested??

yeah seem the t3 turbo from the escort turbo is a common upgrade, needs the rad moved forward slightly, and the manifold from the escort as well. still the t2 would be good round town what i do most as low down power and quick spool up, a chip beige injectors easy mods.
