Talking Help, I am drawn to this...

I've had a Clio 182 Cup before and it was one of the best drives I've owned. The dealers though were shockingly bad. However, I've had crap Skoda, Ford, Audi and Fiat dealers and have come to the conclusion that they are all pretty rubbish and so should no longer influence my car choice.

Might have a run to see it tomorrow.

Or should I get a Focus ST ?

It'll be the wife's car by the way

I'm not keen on the black front, but I'm also mightily tempted by one of these.

I say go for it!

I didn't like the black front either in the magazine pictures but they have always been the green coloured ones. Pistonheads have started running a white one which looks good and I saw a black one with carbon fibre trim and black Speedline wheels at the Trafford Centre last week. That looked really good!

Where are the Scoobynet anti-French car squad?

I'm disappointed.

Just remembered - I usually diss French cars!

Not far off. Still, as it will have kids in the back, it's a fair compromise for NCAP 5 star crash protection.

What is it? The front looks shockingly bad, especially the headlights.

Might be worth watching this - if it was made by anyone else, I'd really want one - as it is Renaults reputation for quality and customer service is hard to beat - for cr4pness.

Hello

Having owned a Clio 172 years ago, I swore I'd never buy another Renault. Build quality is poor. Beyond poor in fact. The Peugeot 106GTI I had before it was built better.

Between the build quality and the shocking service from their dealer network, I'd never buy another Renault again. Unless build quality improved dramatically, and the basic quality/Architecture of the interior was improved too. Renault make the ugliest steering wheels ever.

This is turning into the "What have the Romans done for us..."

So apart from the poor reliability, shocking customer service, rude dealers, low residuals, low rent steering wheel, ugly black bit at the front, shocking customer service and interior rattles...why shouldn't I buy one ...for my wife of course

I don't find Renault any better or worse for servicing and customer care than BMW, Peugeot, Mitsubishi, Citroen, Land Rover or Nissan, all of whom I have used in recent times. I suppose much depends on the relationship you have with your local dealer...

Horses for courses- Drive it and if it just all feels "right", then go for it!
As mentioned before, you could receive poor service at even a supposed premium marque, though a bit more likely at your bread and butter marques such as Renault but, hey thats life so if it ticks all your boxes, then go for it!

I could always tell you about the time renault decided it would be a good idea not to tighten my sump plug up after a service.....
Loved their cars, hated their service.

And I could also tell you about the time my 182 Cup was in for service and suddenly lost all the coolant?!?

Or when they told me that my spare wheel had plenty of tread on.

It didn't have a spare, it had tyre foam!

Go test drive one - and get yourself a bargain - you should be able to get the Cup for just over £13k. Build quality has improved (on the STD rs 200) - but the cup is a bit "poverty".

I've owned 3 Impreza's - and this is as much fun as all of them - but obviously not as fast in a straight line.

Thing is you can enjoy yourself and not have to be doing 120

Here's mine looking back over the best bit of road in Aberdeenshire.

Nice.

I think the Cup would be just too basic for my wife - she likes her textured plastic. I've had a price of £15400 for a 200 with Cup pack and Recaros in white......

However, we are in the process of moving house so that is taking priority at the moment.

I've had shockingly bad service and build quality from Ford so I would be surprised if Renault was actually worse to be honest. Never owned a Renault though and so its a difficult one, it seems the general view is the build quality/service is not good to "shockingly bad!!! I will never buy another"............its not much of a recommendation but then I keep thinking back to the shocking Ford I had from new which went into the garage about 9 times in its first year................sold to a mate and was still going strong 8 years later..........I like the seats and the prices look keen for second hand ones.......its a bit of a gamble that could go either way..............

I have splinters in my **** now so you make up your mind and let us know if you did or didn't............

I've noted a neighbour has an older Clio and I don't see it breaking down every 5 minutes, so they can't all be totally ****.......

Dont tell her then - she'll never know (taps side of nose and winks) tell her its the top of the range and you'll not be lying.

Just dont actually say its the stripped out racing version.
