Default Bug STI for 3 Door Cosworth?

I have a bugeye STi import which I have not long bought but I've had a fair few Subaru's and have come to a crossroads.

I fancy a change and have always longed for a 3 door Cossie but I know its an 80's car and the handling/performance will be crap compared to the STi.

Has anyone else came across this before/done it before?

The 3 door is stunning but what is it they say???.........never meet your hero??

Depends. I'm a huge Fast Ford/Cosworth fan. Yes the car is 20 odd years old, but just the car itself has huge respect among car enthusiasts.

If it's an everyday car, keep the Scoob. If it's a weekend car only? Go for the Cosworth. A good condition Sierra Cosworth will hold value pretty well. Some are going for over £20k. Same as some Escort Cosworths.

How many 20 year old Subarus fetch over £20k?

The STi is my everyday car but as I have a work van, it only gets used once or twice during the week but if I ever do need to use it for something else, it costs a fortune on fuel.
I dont grudge it, but if I had a Cosworth, I'd probably buy a Vectra diesel as well for the mundane tasks then I could pick and choose when to use the 3 door, therefore keeping the value up.
The Subaru will depreciate whether I use it or not.

I notice quite a few people on PF who originally owned Cosworths have had new Lancers/Subarus for a while and then gone back to an older Cosworth. Some just went with the more modern car and never looked back. What I would say is if you do get a decent 3-door and have it for a month, don't crash it, blow it up then you'll not lose much, if any, cash on it. They still have better demand than the 4-door versions

If you can keep it wrapped in cotton wool, only use it on dry days and can afford not to let it come second best then go for the cosworth.

Even if the performance is average these days, When it comes to image, looks and road presence, it cant be beaten. Nice investment too.

I was at a local RS owners track day and had a good look at some Sapphires and 3 doors. Definately going for one once I've sold mine

There were a couple of RS500's too but theyre well out my price range.

My car's up for sale on here, on Pistonheads and on the RS owners website so fingers crossed...........

Also, it doesnt look to difficult to up the power either. 330bhp seems relatively easy to get and with only 2wd, that should be plenty!!

RS500`s are massive money now, infact good 3drs are too, mine cost 12k, mind you, only 33k miles etc so it,s a cracker.

Yes, you,ll get 330 easy for not HUGE amounts of money, great fun factor too.....
