Porsche v. Datsun v. 'Ring
As we know the battle has raged between Porsche and Nissan over the GT-R's claimed times at the 'Ring.
This is not entirely scientific - however we have one driver who has race experience at the 'Ring taking two road cars with road tyres and no modifications around the 'Ring last November.
The Porsche wins by a fair amount - albeit a 997 GT2 which is pretty nippy. The associagted article is very interesting as it has video linked to break down of the 'Ring laps and comparitive speeds of each car.

So it's only £10,500 per second to go quicker
And if you're insisting on using the Datsun name, please ensure you refer to the Porsche as the Beetle GT2.
Joking aside, given the power and weight disadvantage the GTR has, 7 secs slower in the hands of a real(ish) world driver isn't a bad result for a single lap run.

Personally I think it would have been better to use the GT3 - in the hands of most mortals easier to drive fast than the GT2. Also the same price bracket.
No-one is disputing the outstanding performance of the GT-R, even Porsche, however given the power and weight disadvantage Porsche are disputing the truly phenomal 7m 27s run. Quicker than a Carrera GT - it would seem unlikely!

Nowt wrong with the Datsun name.
I don't get the fascination with Ring lap times, I wouldnt choose a car based on it, certainly not over a few seconds difference, it more about manufacturer ***** waving than anything else, they tend to cheat a bit and the "Evo" (magazine not car) brigade wet themselves about it.
