The TDDI diesels are noisy, and not so good on fuel. The TDCI were later IIRC, and drive much nicer, but can have reliability issues.

Petrol are a bit gutless, but no big faults IIRC.

Any Mondeo is a brilliant drive in terms of the weight of the controls, steering feel, ride/handling balance though. Cheap to maintain, lots of choice.

I'm a huge fan but I don't have one, my wife had one for a while.

Dont get a diesel, i know 3 people who have had problems with injectors and subsequent big bills with these.

Any sort of bill will wipe out any saving in fuel over a petrol equivalent.

I also know of a couple of people with injector or pump issues. Guy I know had to stump up around 1500 quid to fix. Go for a petrol if it has to be a Mondeo.

ive got a 53 plate TDCi, very good car indeed, does 62 mpg on the motorway in total comfort and 600 odd miles to a tank of fuel. I've had no problems with mine but it is fairly low mileage

The old boy had a TDCi 130 for 4 years with no issues - and as John has said, they are a brilliant drive

I remember driving my friends brand new top spec one about 2 years ago- I had a 4 yr old passat at the same time then.

the ford felt so bitty and flimsy compared to the passat---- don't get me wrong, nice car, but just not great. very capable blah blah------- but didn;t have the feel or luxury of the passat.

having said all that a good friend just bought a 3 or 4 yr old good spec petrol mondeo- from a ford dealer for £4K. with 3 yr warrenty, road tax and they gave him £750 towards his pile of poo alfa romeo with just a weeks MOT on it. he said he have taken £50 quid for the alfa.

so clearly a bargain second hand.

he says its gutless and dull as anything to drive- but its reasonable transport that you can afford not to care less about.

done 90K in my company '55 plate 2.0 petrol mundane estate. Its now on 137K, only had all new discs/pads, rear shocks and 3 sets of tyres in 90k. Drinks petrol and a little gutless. Goes ok if you strangle it! For what its cost to run(excluding petrol) I think the company has done well out of it.

My bro has a 51 plate 2.5 ghia x V6, nice car, lots of toys and very comfortable, great for long journeys. Goes through tyres a bit, but otherwise no dearer than anything else to run (except fuel I suppose, but he gasses it everywhere. ).
