Default Noble M400 vs Wagon v4

Anyone know much about a Noble M400? Seemed about the quickest thing I've encountered on the roads. He went past me pretty cleanly until I realised I had set my v4 wagon to low boost a few days ago! With full boost available and around 350bhp, it seemed a much more even match although he still drew away a little.

Are they 400bhp, or 400bhp/tonne?

I'm sure the noble would have your wagon even if it was running 350bhp ??

Wagon 274 bhp/tonne
Noble 409bhp/tonne
Don't think it would have been that close!

I remember seeing an M400 hammering an FQ 400 in a test on fifth gear.

The only way you'll beat one is WHEN it breaks down
IIRC they're not exactly the most reliable of motors.

V nice though :dribble:

lovelly car but unreliable and i think the looks are too dated now.

On a bumpy road a sooby should keep up no problem

I've test driven one of these and can tell you it is super fast. Not only that but its twin turbos mean there is power available everywhere in any gear.

All other things being equal a 350 BHP Scoob wouldn't stand much chance.

Build quality is awful, one of the reasons I didn't buy it

A few M12 GTOs accelerated about the same as a 350 BHP GC8 at Knockhill. M400 has considerably more power, try about 450 BHP in a GC8 I reckon.

Some say they don't make the power they claim, but they are fairly light.

I drove an M400 back to back with a WR1 and an FQ340. In performance terms, there is absolutely no comparison.

To say that the Noble blew me away would be an understatement. I've not felt accelleration like that off a superbike. It just explodes down the road, and the sound track of twin turbos, hissing dump vales and chattering watstegates, a few inches from your ear, does nothing to diminish the experience.

And it steers and corners like only a mid-engined car can. There are very few cars on the planet that can keep up with one of those around a track, regardless of power. How did it go around the Top Gear track? Well into the megabucks supercars, I think. And very hard to beat for weekend fun

Hi,
I've got a M12 Noble right now and did have a MY00 UK Impreza modded by AndyF to about 320bhp/300 using one of Andys TD0X-18g turbos.

The M12 is much quicker than the Scooby. The best 1/4m i ever did in the Scooby was 13 dead @ 105. I've not taken the Noble to Crail yet but i believe they should be low 12s @ 116.

But try this for acceleration (i've timed it on my private road) 60 - 140 mph in 12 secs dead.

Would a 350 bhp Scooby keep up with that?

I would agree with John with your comment on the bhp i don't think mines is putting out the full 350 - maybe nearer 320. But they are much lighter.

Cheers
Kenny

A stock GTO 3R puts out 330bhp on our dyno. With just a remap and a pair of uprated actuators it is possible to get them up to circa 420bhp

They arent that impressive really.Look what a standard V4 Type R (except the blitz exhaust) did to one on the 1/4 mile at santa pod.

^^ Harsh fella! Might just be a poor driver at SP? I'd expect a Noble to blitz a Scoob unless Scoob was running mad power.

Couple of things there, that was possibly only a 2.5 so not as much power.

Here is a roush 3R (probably @ 500hp tho)

Just want to correct the lap times. Noble GTO3(much lower spec) went round in 1min25sec on a wet lap, not the M400. The M400 did an unofficial lap time of 1min19.3 seconds when it raced the full race spec (800kg)GT40.

Nobles are base model race cars out of the box and can be highly tuned, there are many Nobles running 600bhp+ per tonne, and it is relatively easy and inexpensive to achieve that power with small turbos, which means power throughout the rev range and no turbo lag, they produce 70% of the torque from 3000 rpm, they are torque monsters and pulling out of a corner they will just power away.

There is no comparisson between a scooby and a Noble, a standard Noble will destroy a Standard Scooby and a race tuned Noble will destroy anything short of a le-mans race car. Nobles are naturally perfect, they have no driver aids, most other cars need a lot of electronic help just to keep them on the road.

There is a reason the M400 acheived fastest lap on the 5th Gear track, forget top gear that show is for entertainment, the actual fastest production car round the top gear track is a Ultima Gtr in 1min 12 secs, but they dont put it on the list?? They basically want you to hear what they want you to hear, hence not posting the 1min19.3 sec lap time of the M400, i am sure they have their reasons for not being factual in reporting lap times anf omitting lap times from the list but we can only guess what the reasons are.

Scooby's are great rally cars, Noble is a race car, it is pointless comparing the two, on a bumpy gravel track the scooby would destroy a Noble.
