New car time, whats worth looking at??
Its new car time, now my ideal car would be a deisel Blobeye wagon, but they don't exist so I have a short list, but what have I missed??
Whats worth considering? Preferably TDi, no bigger than a Legacy, large boot, or atleast split rears as every weekend I'm transporting a case 49" x 22" x 8". Decent handling and no older than 3.5 years.
A3 tdi quattro (booked a test)
Skoda scout (possibly)
Forrester (derv)
Legacy
A4 wagon
Passat
I've not been impressed with the fords I've driven, and that dash in the focus is horrid. The 2 vauxhalls colleages have, are never out of the garage, and the 2 alfa's have had bloody large repair bills at 3.5 years old (1 head and 1 turbo).

Sorry, not if I can help it, nor a merc.
The audi's servicing costs are going to be bad enough!
Sorry, should have added, I'd like to keep awd, but if the new 1 handles like a go kart then maybe I'll move away.

mmm not a major, I've driven my mates S class. Man that thing is huuuuuuuuuuuuge!!!!.
Still a decent X type is 8 - 10k, thats 5 - 6k cheaper than the 55 plate audi I'm testing.

What's not major - no AWD or not deisel?
Which is most important?
Mate of mine has an 06 x type saloon 2.5 petrol and it's really quite nice. I think someone on here worked in the factory, maybe they'll turn up.

Big engined petrol is where the best bargains are and unless you do huge mileage, the extra fuel cost isn't that great (unless you get an S4 like I did ).
So A3 3.2 is sweet, with DSG naturally but I know without checking that the Jag will be the best bargain...
...And now having checked Parkers the Audi is a bargain, and the Jag and absolute steal
Both would go down well with the blood sports set
PS Will that coffin you're carrying fit on the back seat of a saloon?

that coffin!!! I do 12k miles just commuting to work!!
Its a bow case, and it just, and I mean just fits across the back seats of the impreza. It buggers up taking anyone else to a shoot though, espacially if its a weekender with camping gear etc.

X-Type estate, 3l V6, 4WD, fully loaded £30k car on a 55 plate for £9k. Friggin steal! And quite a nice place to be on that commute.
Edit: and you can sleep in it. The car, not the coffin

I would have the Legacy over the Jag especially with the flat 4 diesel engine.Build quality should be better too.No idea about it's flaws though electrically or mechanically & cost of parts etc.

Another vote for the Legacy here but you're not going to find a 3 year old diesel; they were only introduced in '08. The Legacy is head and shoulders above the rest of the cars on your list and decent Spec Bs can be had for very little money these days.
The saving on purchase price would easily make up for the extra running costs unless you do an astronomical mileage. You get that lovely flat six motor too!

The 3.0ltr engine is a flat 6 ??? i thought that this engine is a horizontal 4 cyl.You could have the 2.5 petrol Legacy converted to lpg for around £1,900 and Subaru convert it for you.And for the Outback too i guess.

Guys just found something people here with 08 & 09 Subarus should know about, check out LegacyGT.com and search for 09 Spec B engine failure in the Legacy forums then technical forums and warranty issues & problems. The same engine is used in Scoobies, FXT's and OBXT's (no idea what they are). This is starting to happen in America and 3 of them have done low km's ( the longest distance is 4,200 km ).Subaru then replace with a long block hoping nothing happens to them.

Maybe it's the petrol engine only i don't know. Also what was said is ball barings are used with previous model cranks & possibly is the cause or Subaru used veg oil to lubricate the engine parts.Don't ask me how true this is because i don't know.
