Default Alfa 159 - Experiences

Are the dealers as bad as their reputation?

Are the cars still unreliable?

Do they go as well as they look?

Should I just get a 320 or save some cash and get another Octavia, spending the difference on my wife's car (A3 to a Focus ST or similar)?

These cars are defo more reliable than previous generations a la 156. In saying that they do seem to have a few niggles depending on year.

The best engines are the diesels with the 1.9JTDm being the pick of the bunch for most people.

Get yourself over to Alfaowners.com, unfortunately like many of the cars the site is actually broken down at the mo but should be back running in the next hour or two

Oh the irony

Does the webmaster promise to call back with an update at 4pm and then be unobtainable until lunch time the following day?

TBH, the service advisor at the Alfa dealer I used to take my GTV to was very good at calling as promised.......can`t say the same for BMW, Audi, VW or Merc!

I recently bought a 2.4 JTDM Brera, which is like a reduced wheelbase 159 & its been great so far. Can't say anything about the dealers as I use a local specialist. Quality, fit & finish wise is good & nothings fallen off it yet !! Interior is fantastic too. Got a Steinbauer box for it & its now running 255bhp & around 350 ft lbs of torque so it shifts a bit for an oil burner. I bought it as I didn't want to be like all the BM and Audi clones out there on the roads and fancied something a bit different.
If you're going for a 159 get the 2.4 diesel, but don't expect miraculous MPG as I'm getting around 35 at the minute (could be my right foot though )

I've been very pleased with my 156 2.4 jtd and have racked up c.60k in 2 years with with excellent reliability and an enjoyable driving experience. Main dealers' reputations are rightly poor, find a good independant such as Days in Milton Keynes or Black & White in Newbury and you'll do fine.
I do find that you do have to tolerate some "quirks", if you're someone who'll take the car back to the garage everytime you hear a squeek, noise or warning light .....you'll be a busy man !

I am a late 156 1.9 M jet owner, I had a 159 1.9 [petrol] Lusso as a loan car. I thought is was marvelous, even the laggy engine was manageable once it was wound up too!

However most magazines think they are great, until you drive it?!?!!

there is going to be a new range of petrol engines coming out next year. one being a 1.8turbo to replace the GM based jts engines.

Can't beat the old Twinspark though
