Default Options/Advice please......

I currently own MY07 STi and my run around/works car which is a Rover 220 TD.

I am after 'upgrading' my Rover to something a bit different.

I work on a 6 on and 4 off basis at work and for all commutes to work I use the Rover, the total journey is 35 miles each day, mainly motorway. I have had it for over a year and its not put a foot wrong!

I am after some suggestions that fit in with the following requirements:

Registered in 1998 onwards

Half decent fuel consumption - I get around the 35-40mpg mark in the Rover

Something with a bit of performance, a half decent handling, light, nippy etc.

Budget of upto £2K.

Can be practical, although its not a massive factor.

Cheap on the tax/service/parts areas. Relatively reliable to run day in and day out.

Not mega high mileage but appreciate for the price/year of car that will be considered, its not going to be that low.

Something thats fun to drive for a laugh/work run, basically the opposite of my Rover!!

Any advice/suggestions/links would be appreciated!!

Cheers

G

Civic VTi
106 GTi or Saxo VTS
306 GTi-6
Seat Ibiza Cupra 16v
MK1 Clio 172 (think they're around this price range now)

I would suggest things like Mondeo ST200, BMW E36 325/328i Sport, Vectra GSi but they're really going to struggle to make 30mpg combined in the real world I reckon. Specially if you're hitting 35-40mpg out of a Rover Derv just now.

Cheers,
Grant

I'm thinking 306 GTI-6 or Clio 172 so far, amazing what fun little motors you can buy for a small chunk of change these days!
