The vehicles will be workhorses for the sales guys. As long as they make sales I don't care if they are chavs

I have one at work and tbh I am not impressed. Its a 2007 Aventura auto.

3 things..

1) Its been fairly un-reliable. Been into the dealers atleast half a dozen times. Drivers side door would not open, sat nav locked up twice, trim falling, bluetooth stopped working about 3 times at last count. Also the dealer netwowk is rubbish.

2) MPG! It does less than 20mpg... nowhere near nissans advertised MPG (30.5 IIRC) On the motorway you might see 25 - 30 but in town 15 - 18 is more like it.

3) Its not very good to drive. We have upto 32 tonne HGVs on our fleet and some of them are nicer to drive. The turning circle is HUGE, its brakes are made of some kind of french cheese and the gear box might decide to hold a gear for 0.1 second, then change up, then change back down - repeat until your sick. Then when you really want it to go it does not change down! In 4x4 mode you can really feel the mass of the thing and it feels very heavy. I also dislike the seats. The ride at any sort of speed is similar to a powerboat on full chat, but to give it credit the suspension at low speed or off road is quite good. Just bear in mind its on leaf springs at the rear!! Very 1930s...

Whats it good at, well everything most other pick ups are good at really, I would have a good look at an L200 too - take a test drive.

The engine seems strong, but like I said the brakes are not upto the job.
It looks good, if there is such a thing for a pick up.

Wife's grandparents had one from new. Three months later they got rid of it!

They are longer than a LC Amazon (which they also have) and generally not all that good.

I was wanting a Navara until reading this thread. My sisters other half has one and this has broken down twice but i thought he was just unlucky.
How do L200's compare in the reliability stakes?
Nik.

I don't know if it will impact sufficiently on your decision but their emissions are horrendous, so if its a company vehicle there will be tax implications.

I reckon the Isuzu, new shape 2.5 CRD is the one to beat. And you can have a PPP as well.

Emissions don't come into the equation for pick ups as they're commercial vehicles.
Tax implications?
About £600 per year for a basic rate payer
And the L200 is only £180 RFL per year, too.

STi - If you test drive an L200, the one you'll want MUST have the power upgrade fitted.
It comes as standard on the Animal and, I think, the TWR. You'll probably only be able to test the Warrior though, and that won't have the upgrade on it.

I think your confusing the 2 vechiles. The link was for the Navara and Flatcapdrivers comment was about the old shape L200's, which you can't buy new anymore.

The Navara/Pathfinder is worse than the plague if you read any forum which involves towing.

The guy who started the site in the link is from touringandtenting.com, the issues people have had are frightening. Anything from turbo failures to full engine swaps and vehicles being in the dealers for months.
The engine seems problematic when hauling about the heavy Navara but stick a trailer on the back and they just seem to explode.

One to avoid at all costs.

Cheers
Lee

What a load of old tosh that has been posted on here

How many of the posters has actually owned a D40 Navara?
For those who don't know, the D40 is the later style version.

The older D22's DID have some engine issues with big end bearings, but the engine in the D40 is NOT the same.
Yes the early ones did have few problems but these have been sorted.

[If you want to moan about faulty engines etc then look no further than the scooby]

Had a D40 Nav Outlaw Double Cab from brand new in Oct 2006 and had NO PROBLEM at all with it.
It's about the fastest pickup in standard un-modded guise you can get!
I've do 20k per year, a lot of that towing for business and towing a twin axle caravan for pleasure. Its still faster than a standard L200 even if the Nav's towing!!!
And you find some Navs are pulling 5th wheel trailers which are VERY HEAVY!

If you want high MPG you don't buy a 2tonne+ AUTOMATIC do ya?

I've driven mine across europe and no issues with it at all.
I've had 39mpg taking it easy on along run. Always get over 30 mpg on the motorways, did 35mpg last week on a 300 mile round trip. Drive it on A roads I get over 30 mpg. Around town you have to be easy with it to get 30's.
Towing I get 25 - 29mpg.

When you consider its a works vehicle is pretty well specced up....
My Outlaw (the model down from the Adventura) has:

electric windows x 4
remote central locking
power steering
cruise control
climate control
6 cd stereo system
automatic headlamps
automatic wipers
auto dimming rear view mirror
bluetooth phone
6 speed g/box
17" Alloys
front fogs
side steps
tinted windows
selectable low and high range 4wd
~172bhp
~300ftlb torque

probably more but right now I cant think but you get the idea!
Better spec than a lot of cars!

I only pay £120 for 12 months road tax
It has 18,000 mile / 24 months service intervals
Does over 500 miles to a tank of fuel

There isn't another vehicle out there that does what the Navara does for the money. I normally change my vehicles every 2 years but there's nothing around to touch it (I spent ages looking)

You'll here loads of bad stuff about anything as people love to moan, but not many get vocal when they are happy.

Lots of info here:
nissan navara forums

Personally I preferred an Outlaw spec as I didn't want leather and an inbuilt sat nav you can't put postcodes into!

There are plenty of L200 owners that have swapped over to the Navara and find it a much better vehicle, probably because it is!

As you've guessed I like my truck! As much as I liked my scooby, only with the Navara I can bump it up kerbs all day long and not have to worry about my rims being knackered!

Top Chav vehicle that one
Do you have an Impreza?

Isuzu, Toyota, Mitsi, actually there's a few.

They all have strengths and weaknesses, the Nissan is getting some bad press, but it's also the biggest selling pickup in the UK, so there's bound to be a higher proportion of faulty ones.

I love my Isuzu, it's a proper workhorse, but with all the comforts and is the most practicle vehicle I've ever owned.

has all the bells i need, would off road your outlaw all day long. I get nearly the same MPG. will lose about £100 in value in a year ! And has a far more sensible layout !!! your thing is rubbish for anyone in the "building game " etc.

I just got an e-mail today advising that you can buy a new Navara for £16100. PCP deals were 36 mths for £178 plus £2.5k deposit. It said employees only , but I didn't see it specified in the exclusions or terms for the quoted figures.

ive had my aventura auto for 12 months now
nice motor but does have some bad points
fuel economy is always 18-22mpg regardless of in town or m-way
door handle sticks open
electric seat controls playing up
poor paint finish when picked up(re spray)
heater controls intermitent
sat nav dont do postcodes
had an isuzu before this one
and an l200 before that
if all three came with the same spec i would have the isuzu

budgie

oh, and the dealers are crap

I agree 100% with 4X4BOB on this.

I have been to that site, but as its a site aimed against the Navara you get an unbalanced view.
I'm also an active membwer on the Nissan-Navara forums where you get a more balanced view.

Its like saying Scooby's are all ****e, the engines blow up, they're always having crashes, and they're driven by chavs and drug dealers!

Why would 4X4BOB or people like me want a 2k Landcrab?

Yeah clients would be well impressed if I turned up in a beat pile of rust - Not!

Mine is fully warranted so if anything did go wrong, I don't have to pay to repair it!

People don't buy a pick up truck for their off road ability you numptie. Any off road enthusiast with half a brain can tell you the wheel base and the over hangs are far too long on pick up trucks!

Sensible layout depends on what you want a vehicle to do? A landcruiser does not do what my pick up will do - Seat 5 adults in the cab and carry 1000kg of equipment in the back!

Not that I use mine in the building game, but if I did it would fair better than an old Landcrab!

Some people expect to trade a "commercial vehicle" in and get retail money for it forgetting about VAT. When selling back into the trade the VAT has to come off the price. But when you've claimed the VAT back when you bought it new, whats the problem?

I fully understand your point, but I have to agree with 4X4BOB on the matter.

I've owned the L200 and it was the most unreiable, under powered, un comfy vehicle I've owned and would never have another. Plus their dealerships are dwindling (I wonder why?)
The early Toyota's were brill at the time. The later ones just don't have it.
Had one on long term loan after an accident. 3 months later I was glad to give it back.
The Isuzu isn't too bad, but my 24hr demo drive was long enough for me to know I am better off with the Navara.
The Ford Ranger is a gutless no hoper!

My Navara LongWay Down edition is FULLY kitted out, easily gives me mpg's in the 30's and is a good motorway cruiser too.

Drove from Nottingham to Manchester to Glasgow to Stirling all in one day and it got me there relaxed, in comfort and on time!

Other drivers are often caught out by how quick these trucks are.
They weigh over 2000kg empty, add on driver and passenger and a bed full of gear and you're driving 3000kg around, yet it still performs brilliantly!

Sell my Navara? Not a chance until something better appears on the market!

I sold my new scooby after 18months though!

Each to their own, what is good for one person is not for another. Otherwise we'd all be driving around in identical vehicles!!!

One more thing - My daughter prefers me to give her lifts in the Navara instead of Mum in her new Merc. Apparently all the boys think my truck is cool

Owned 2 Navara's and now have a Pathfinder.
Totally positive experience.!!

Had a Navara then a nearly new Navara Aventura never a hint of a problem.
Now have a Pathfinder which I rate even higher than both the Navara.

Ownership came through research and have owned or drove nearly every 4x4 on the market.
My Pathfinder has done 20k plus in the last 6 months alone and touch wood has never missed a beat. It is driven hard every day and worked pretty much all the time.It manages this in comfort and regurlary tows (Impreza's mainly!) at speed and last week for example I drove with the trailer empty on first leg and then loaded with an impreza and drove 700 miles total with two tonns on the trailer for half that journey climtae/air con on and mine is auto/tiptronic also and still managed 25 mpg. I really dont think thats bad?!?!
I have managed the claimed mpg (around 27/8 round town driving steady)

It is stable when towing has a much better driving position that any other 4x4I tried/drove these included ;All imho and I have tried all the following for more than a 5 minute drive!

Old and new L200 (slow.noisey terrible economy and to small for occupant and no load space crap when towing)
New Hilux invincable (crap seats ,worse spec, load area far to high up)
Isuzu Rodeo Denver max le ( not bad but bit old fashioned /aggricultrel)
Discovery 3 tdv6 se (Nice but pricey, was warned about lots of problems closest thing to Nissan tbh just thought itwas a lot more to spend)Still like but reckon have to be nearly new and same spec as Nissan was close on
£33k!!!!!!!!
Toyota Hilux(old shape) powerless old fashioned!
NEW Ford Ranger (not bad imho good value,)
Old Ford Ranger (better than l200!)
Mazda (not as good as Ford even though same thing?!just did not like)
3/4 year old Range Rover (reckon it would break with the work I had planned.scaery repair bills!)Good to drive though while it worked!
VW Tourag (nah not for me)

The spec on my Pathfinder is mind blowing and I honestly cannot find anything I dislike about it. It is used for the school run, collecting stock, towing trailer, dragging shells around ,huge load area often utilised. Quick given size, mine looks great (imho)xenon lights are awesome, zoned heating system great, keyless entrybrill!
It is good off road I have had a play more than once.
Easy to work on , long service intervalls .I honestly cannot understand why every one above has had such bad luck!
Good dealer by the way after trying 5..only one to use and yes I travel! West Way Nissan Stoubridge..see Howard.
Mines great..I'm all right JAck

Its good some people have not had any problems, maybe I am just unlucky.

Ours cost the best part of £26k inc VAT and tbh I dont think its worth it. Ours gets used fairly lightly for a com vehicle, we have a couple of 7.5 tonners that would be on the road 8 hours a day 6 days a week - with a good 4 tonne load on, and they even give better MPG sometimes!!

For a "joe bloggs" or one man band they might well be ok, but for a company who expect it to work hard.. - I think next time we will just get a crew cab 3.5t transit with a tipping body, probably more reliable and more flexable too.

Why did you get the Adventura Automatic if its just a bog standard works vehicle you need? The SE would have done you by the sounds of it.
You've paid extra for the Auto g/box (wastes your fuel with that), extra for the Adventura spec (not worth it) and it was probably a waste for you.

I wouldn't pay £22k + vat for one like you did, thats just crazy!

I shopped around and paid £17250 + vat for mine, nearly £5k less than yours (no point mentioning the vat as you get that back anyway)
The vehicle I got at that price, I think it represents very good value for money.
