Default Corsa oil pressure light

Any clues on this? my work rides oil light came on - here's the detail

Oil light flicked on when the car was idling at 500rpm, as soon as revs rise it goes off. Checked the oil which was a little low but in the tolerance marks and topped up. problem didn't go away and now the light comes on anything below 2000rpm.

I would have guessed oil pump but its seems a bit new and low mileage for that sort of issue. No visible leaks and since I topped up the oil again its lost none.

Its an 01 and done 45,000 miles. I had done an oil and filter change a month prior. any help would be great as I'm now using the scooby for work and while its much more fun the fuel costs are nasty!

Cheers

The best thing to do really would be to get it in and have the oil pressure checked. Seeing as most garages now charge a diagnostic fee it may be worth having a go yourself. The first thing to try would be a new pressure switch, they shouldn't cost much and are easy to fit...just don't overtighten it, you won't need to swing off it!

See what that does. If it's still wrong then as you say, you're looking at an oil pump and or a bottom end rebuild.

I'm assuming you put the correct grade oil in when you changed it?

Oil pressure switches are a very common failure on Corsa's

Is your light Red or Orange/Yellow? Mines only got a Red (low oil pressure) but some of the vans in work have got a Yellow/Orange light as well (low oil LEVEL) HTH A new oil filter may be worth a try, the one you had fitted could be faulty

Was always told that if an OE oil pressure light came on than more often than not it meants the engine is gubbed as they only activate at [i]very[/] low pressure... however, if the Corsas are known for these sensors failing then its defo worth spending a few quid to see if that fixes it.
