It'd been of the road for a while and I sold it to add funds to go travelling.

The RX7 is by far and away a better car than the scoob. Just the sense of feeling whilst driving it was close to sex Best car Ive ever owned anyway. Highly recommend it, and considering winter is coming up its a cheap time to by one, although dangerous time too, back end can be very twitchy in bad conditions. Personally though they suit my driving style 100% and I never lost the RX7 and I had the back end out numerous times. The Scoob I couldnt get on with tbh.

Engine did go pop on mine too but had it a while and drove it hard for the period I did have it. I also wouldnt recommend buying one if all you can afford to do is buy it and put it on the road just being able to cover running costs. Great car to have if you are prepared to fork out if it does go wrong. Try and buy one recently rebuilt. Warrenty then

Guy on here who posts as "Tokyo something" has one. Seemed to like it I think that they look awesome. Just need to make sure you have funds to pay for "problems" as they do seem to suffer a bit (10yrs old now so you'd expect some problems I guess).

One of the issues with the engine is, that if the car is left standing for a long time, supposedly the inside of the combustion chamber rusts..... then that results in terribel wear of the tips of the rotors.....

My gfs lil bro has the twin turbo FD, and that car is pure sex on a stick, goes pretty well too

The old original tips used to burn out, also water seals would break leaking water into the rotary housings giving trouble starting etc...

Lad at work had one (although it was the old N/A type) he had i think 3 rebuilds inside 12 months, he did it himself and by the 3rd attempt could pull the engine out inside 40 minutes.

Funny he made one of the triangular pistons that are in RX7's into a clock and it resides on his fireplace.

I told him to make these as a living due to the amount of engines these cars can go through

One of the best handling cars i have ever been in though!!!!

Hi,

You'll realise why my Scooby is a wagon - my other car is and RX7!!

I run both and both cars have their merits.

I really think it depends what you priorities are.

My view is the RX7 handles so much better than the Scooby - a proper sports car. My RX7 is almost a pure track day car now and I think it is awsome on track.

However, overall I think a Scooby is a better road car because it deals with lumpy roads much better and the engine is more torquey.

RX7s have a reputation for being unreliable and it's not completely without justification. The engines can not take any detonation and so it's best to stay safe with the boost. As long as you keep the boost below 1.0bar and look after the car, the engines can last surprisingly well. I think a lot of engines let go when they haven't been mapped properly or are thrashed when not running properly.

You also need to make sure any cars you view have had a rebuild by a reputable engine builder and it has the receipts for the work. From this perspective I think it is easier to get power out of a Scooby.

Also, fuel consumption is terrible. 20mpg at best on a gentle motorway cruise.

In summary, if you're a power junkie, I'd stick with a Scooby or get an Evo. If you appreciate the balance of a sorted RWD chassis and spot on dynamics are your thing, get an RX7. As soon as you take a bend in an RX7 you can feel the good weight distribution, low CofG and just how 'right' it feels. Not to mention front end grip that I find lacking in my Scooby!!!

Mind you, I wouldn't recommend running one as an only car!!!
