So he isn't likely to take £400.
Buy a used NISSAN MICRA Car - Auto Trader UK
Nissan Micra's are always good for this kind of money. Obviously you won't get a mint example, but for commuting, it doesn't really matter. Our old 1.0 K11 always gave 40mpg around town and closer to 50mpg on a run. Even if you get one with the common throttle body circuit board issue (causes the engine to missfire when it gets hot due to dry solder joints) you can fix it yourself in under an hour like I did.

I've asked this before, but can't remember the answer..... so I'll ask again!!
How accomodating is the inside of a Micra?? I'm 6ft1 and a big build, I'm also looking for a runaround to blast into town, leave anywhere, take dog out etc... and my Ford Ka is on borrowed time. I was surprised at the space (in the front) of the Ka and I dont look too ridiculous driving it, but will the Micra be the same.. or is it still a small car inside that I will fill the side window when driving??
Cheers,
Grant

The micra is quite a tall car, so headroom won't be an issue. The boot is bigger than the KA as is the room in the back. Trust me, for a little run about, you can't do better for the money. If you decide it isn't for you, just sell it on again. These cars are a doddle to shift.
