Renault 5 gt turbo (deep pockets though for running costs) Mk1 or 2 golf gti, escort rs turbo, Fiat coupe turbo, old skool astra 16v, pug 205 gti 1.9?? Any of these will put a smile on your face mate, but wouldn't like to maintain them!!

You get a lot of fast Saab for 2 grand, fast in a straight line, ditto Volvo's.

Depends whether you put straight line speed over overall ability, you can get an MX5 for that, a MK2 8 valve Golf isnt all that fast but great fun and fast enough, I would stay away from anything like 300 ZX's and Supra Turbos at that money. A fiat Coupe turbo is fast but really do your homework, get over to fccuk.co.uk and read it carefully.

Wouldnt the obvious answer be, to move over to the dark side, and pick up an evo 1 or 2? some of them are going for peanuts over on the MLR site

Can I ask why you sold the STi?

Think an evo is too similar. You know my suggestion involves MI-16 engined 205 goodness - maybe even a cheap turbo conversion...

calibra turbo 4 x 4

the nova redtops are very good (straight line) but a bit top heavy when taking the corners

200sx very capable car, cracking engine

would keep away from the early evo's though as due to their age they are likely to be a money pit (well known that they suffer from crankwalk)

Fiesta Rs turbo or RS1800

Corrado vr6 (if you can find one)

Nova redtops can be made to handle, but you have to spend a lot of money on coilovers, box sectioned lower arms and updrated tiebar brackets as wll.

fiat coupe 20v turbo is quick i knew someone who had his chipped with the chip off the **** forum he hammered it to death eventually the big ends went at 70k miles to describe the noise from the exhaust its defo not vroom vroom like most cars its more wooooooosh when the turbo comes on sounds like compressed air rushing out the exhaust and was very noisy with it too.
sounded like a leaking compressed air hose overtaking me.havent heard a car like it.no its not the dumpvalve iam well aware of what it is lol and very quick.same acceleration as a standard twin turbo rx7 that engine also died and rebuilt to a small fortune not long after that encounter.

renault 5 so much grin so many problems could be buying a can of worms who knows whats waiting to suprise you.my own experience.
200sx my workm8 had one only mods were a dawes device boost controller air induction kit dumpvalve and apex exhaust way too loud and backfires with the flame when changing gear apparently only does that with the dumpvalve fitted when removed i liked the sound of the air rushing back through the airfilter some people would say the sound is the wastegate but its not.anyhow it is fast and is running the original ecu they can take a bit of boost before changing anything major 270 bhp he said it was making.lots of them have been used as drift slags so be careful.
prob 200sx is best bet due to the drift scene they will hold their prices quite well for decent ones.

To be honest, there have probably been more impreza bottom end failures/spun bearings than there have been 4g63 crankwalk cases...

Calibra 4x4 turbo sounds good,

so does the Pulsar Gti-r heard gearboxes can be a weak point

And as for the corrado, im sure a few supercharged G60 models could be found on the cheap.

And lets not forget the Audi s2, many high mileage ones, but mileage doesnt seem to be an issue for the old 5cyl audi's, my dads had two audi 100's that have both gone over 200,000miles without any engine issues

You mean the normal Renault 5 1.7, and then stick a turbo onto it?
