what to buy, £2000-2500, must be fast!!

ok looks like my sti could be going this weekend, iv already got a vw polo as a daily runner and im looking to get something interesting as a weekend toy, not another scooby. was thinking nova redtop, golf mk2 gti vr6. any suggestions or links to something to float my boat?? want something that will put a smile on my face when i drive it and be very quick.

classic Subaru Si 27 October 2008 05:21 PM

Renault 5 gt turbo (deep pockets though for running costs) Mk1 or 2 golf gti, escort rs turbo, Fiat coupe turbo, old skool astra 16v, pug 205 gti 1.9?? Any of these will put a smile on your face mate, but wouldn't like to maintain them!!

J4CKO 27 October 2008 07:21 PM

You get a lot of fast Saab for 2 grand, fast in a straight line, ditto Volvo's.

Depends whether you put straight line speed over overall ability, you can get an MX5 for that, a MK2 8 valve Golf isnt all that fast but great fun and fast enough, I would stay away from anything like 300 ZX's and Supra Turbos at that money. A fiat Coupe turbo is fast but really do your homework, get over to fccuk.co.uk and read it carefully.

The Chief 27 October 2008 10:58 PM

Honda Prelude 2.2. Vtec but get the red top manual with just shy of 200bhp reliable as fook as well:thumb:

Moley 27 October 2008 11:01 PM

200SX?

GlesgaKiss 27 October 2008 11:12 PM

An R6. :D

RJM25R 28 October 2008 12:14 AM

Nova redtop. Hilarious when you waste a Scoob with a cr4p driver!

abbott 28 October 2008 12:22 AM

Civic VTI hatch ... 170bhp in a tin can , amazing fun i want another

RJM25R 28 October 2008 12:33 AM

Vauxhall : 16V nova 16 valve 2.1 cam, bike carbs, cage, brake

known car. check it!

djmisio85 28 October 2008 06:02 AM

Wouldnt the obvious answer be, to move over to the dark side, and pick up an evo 1 or 2? some of them are going for peanuts over on the MLR site

chocolate_o_brian 28 October 2008 09:17 AM

Can I ask why you sold the STi?

Think an evo is too similar. You know my suggestion involves MI-16 engined 205 goodness :lol1: - maybe even a cheap turbo conversion...

banny sti 28 October 2008 09:25 AM

Rover 220 GSI turbo hatch, if you can find one!

Banny

TonyBurns 28 October 2008 12:28 PM

Nissan GTI-R's are falling into this price bracket now, though getting a good one..... :(

Tony:)

jaytc2003 28 October 2008 12:28 PM

calibra turbo 4 x 4

the nova redtops are very good (straight line) but a bit top heavy when taking the corners

200sx very capable car, cracking engine

would keep away from the early evo's though as due to their age they are likely to be a money pit (well known that they suffer from crankwalk)

Fiesta Rs turbo or RS1800

Corrado vr6 (if you can find one)

Coffin Dodger 28 October 2008 02:02 PM

BMW? Could get a top notch E30 325i for that or maybe something a little more recent with the superb BMW straight six in it :)

RJM25R 28 October 2008 07:04 PM

Nova redtops can be made to handle, but you have to spend a lot of money on coilovers, box sectioned lower arms and updrated tiebar brackets as wll.

ScoobTypeR 28 October 2008 07:18 PM

Honda crx....... 16v or vtec.. Awesome lil cars

delcbr 28 October 2008 09:57 PM

fiat coupe 20v turbo is quick i knew someone who had his chipped with the chip off the fcuk forum he hammered it to death eventually the big ends went at 70k miles to describe the noise from the exhaust its defo not vroom vroom like most cars its more wooooooosh when the turbo comes on sounds like compressed air rushing out the exhaust and was very noisy with it too.
sounded like a leaking compressed air hose overtaking me.havent heard a car like it.no its not the dumpvalve iam well aware of what it is lol and very quick.same acceleration as a standard twin turbo rx7 that engine also died and rebuilt to a small fortune not long after that encounter.

renault 5 so much grin so many problems could be buying a can of worms who knows whats waiting to suprise you.my own experience.
200sx my workm8 had one only mods were a dawes device boost controller air induction kit dumpvalve and apex exhaust way too loud and backfires with the flame when changing gear apparently only does that with the dumpvalve fitted when removed i liked the sound of the air rushing back through the airfilter some people would say the sound is the wastegate but its not.anyhow it is fast and is running the original ecu they can take a bit of boost before changing anything major 270 bhp he said it was making.lots of them have been used as drift slags so be careful.
prob 200sx is best bet due to the drift scene they will hold their prices quite well for decent ones.

ScoobyDoo555 28 October 2008 10:08 PM

what about a 306 gti6 or Rallye?
Not the fastest, but one of the best handling :)

MR2 Turbo?

StudentScooby 28 October 2008 11:29 PM

yep we have a winner mr2 turbo ideal quick weekend toy for £2500

To be honest, there have probably been more impreza bottom end failures/spun bearings than there have been 4g63 crankwalk cases...

Calibra 4x4 turbo sounds good,

so does the Pulsar Gti-r:cool: heard gearboxes can be a weak point

And as for the corrado, im sure a few supercharged G60 models could be found on the cheap.

And lets not forget the Audi s2, many high mileage ones, but mileage doesnt seem to be an issue for the old 5cyl audi's, my dads had two audi 100's that have both gone over 200,000miles without any engine issues :luxhello:

dannytwo 29 October 2008 12:41 AM

how about a starlet Gt turbo/glanza? iv just sold mine, cracking little car in standard form they produce 135 bhp, doesnt seem much but for a car that weighs only 770kg

it put a smile on my face! easy to mod too

Dannytwo
