The amount of owners on an Escort Cosworth is not a cause for concern because they are usually bought between enthusiasts and are kept in mint condition. A friend of mine bought a mint sapphire cossie the other day with 14 owners on it As for a valuation your probably looking at about 10-14k.

a car is only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it
with regards to this Escort Rs Cosworth i would say 10k (i would base this on the fact that is had probably been a little chavved up)
Imperial Blue normally fetch 1k or more than other colours

Always buy an Escos on mileage, originality and condition. Early cars are always less desirable, the small turbo models command higher value with leather and aircon. If its modified, make sure the work is done to a high standard and all the supporting parts are done.
High miles/Average condition under £11-12k
Good, tidy, modified examples £12-16k
Low miles, mint, high spec, low miles £15+
expect to pay about £16-18k for a really good car, either well built to 400+bhp or mega low miles.
The spec you have posted, without pics and no idea of condition. Your probably looking in the £12k (ish) bracket for an impreial late spec with that mileage, owners etc.

I can't understand how these cars hold their money so well! There must be a very small market for them. Over £10k for a 12 year old escort with 86k miles on!!!
I know they are special, I love them too but when compared to similar cars like the Impreza and Lancer Evo they are extremely expensive.
A 96 STi for instance would be around £4k probably.
I wonder if the large number of owners is due to each person buying cos they really wanted one and then realised its just an old Ford?
Sorry for being so negative!

I had one in 1997-1998 - I simply had to have it as it was the ultimate hot hatch. But the unrelaibility of the 'Ford' bits compared to the Cosworth bits meant it was not a great experience. However, I bought it for £18k, added 10,000 miles and sold it for £18k! Still like the look of them.

It was a tongue in cheek observation, but it's worth less with those wheels than standard!

Well have to agree with you there, there is no accounting for taste though!

Well kept unmolested Imprezas may be worth something in years to come. I remember my Cossie being slated as a poor mans Porsche, having a council estate image etc.I kept hold of it and sold it for a profit......Good things come to those who wait. Shame it was so unreliable and rough.....

Look at how Mk1 XR2s have gone from a few hundred quid to a few grand
Want a Brooklands Capri? Still worth thousands.
Even the RS Focus is still worth a few quid and lets not forget the original 60's Mustang.
Want to invest for the future - buy a blue oval heh.
5t.

I totally agree fivetide. When i was 18 I bought a Toyota Corolla GTi-16 instead of a Fiesta RS turbo which I'd always wanted. The Toyota was better in every way yet when I sold it I got £1800 compared to the £4000 average for fiesta RS's. If you want my corolla now its about £200, but the RS is still silly money.
What amazes me is the number of people prepared to pay that money to keep the price up.
Going back to Escort cossies for £12k & over, you only have to the think of the alternative cars you can get to wonder why anyone would pay that.
Few examples-
Hi-Tek Cars : BMW M3 Cab Estoril Blue Only 55k
Stratstone Collection Mercedes Wakefield : Mercedes-Benz S55 AMG Long Wheel Base
Pan East Asia Services(London) : Tommi Makinen
West Moors Motor Company : MITSUBISHI LANCER EVOLUTION 9
Red Line Racing : NISSAN 350 Z 3.5 V6 GT 3dr
And of course theres plenty of brand new cars available for £12k

The only Subaru that will hold it's money like a cossie is a 22b, and maybe the p1's. the market is totally flooded with Subaru's due to all the imports that are over here. Unless thousands get written off in the next 10 years, I can't see them being as collectable as cosworths!

I paid 10 grand for my 3 door cosworth, ran it for about 4 years, and still got 10 big ones back when I sold it. And they are even older than the escorts!! Think mine was a 1987. My mates dad sold his RS 500 for £18,500 2 weeks ago, pumping out just under 600 bhp.

Lets wait and see....You're right about all the imports. I'm talking about UK Classics, 22B, P1, RB5, Series McRae, then UK300, WR1, RB320. etc. Many said that Cossies would never be a classic back in the 90s.

I'll bet there is nobody lost money on a Cossie Escort like you would on a scoob! The facts are very exclusive due to the numbers manufactured and sort after by enthusiasts, However the scoob is sort after but with about 100 different variations and millions manufactured something has to give, the price unfortunately.
