Default 205 GTI AGAIN :)

Ok just won a 205 1.9 gti on ebay for the grand total of £715
iv wanted one for the last couple of years but never realy got round to getting one

iv had a 1.6 gti about ten years ago and remember loving it and regreting selling it when the time come

the question is am i going to still love the 205 for the fun factor or am i going to think ,what a shed, and throw the rose tinted glasses on the floor and sell it within a week

going to pick it up tuesday .....quite excited

Give us the link and we'll tell you if it's a shed!

It'll certainly feel like driving a biscuit tin around if you've been using modern cars.

I had one about 3 yrs back after having an almost new one and it made me smile more than most cars ever could. So light and responsive.

Looks nice and clean - not messed with too, which is nice.

I hope the mileage is good as the seller's maths doesn't look to clever...........

6 months' tax would take it to March 09!!!

Worth £50

But it really does look clean and tidy, and he's sorted the window too.

Keep hold of it and keep it going - it won't lose you a penny in value now. My last one was bought for £550, I used it for a year and sold it on for £700.

Ah a 205gti appreciation thread.

You may/may not know I've had mine since I sold the Scoob in June. Probably should have boguth a cheap deisel considering my finances, but hey ho, this thing has kept me sane.

EAsily the most fun car to drive bar the Scoobaru, and so light and nimble too. Just learning now about letting off on corners and getting it slightly sideways on purpose too

Bought mine for £900 in June, and admittedly it's taken a few new/second hand parts to get it how I want, but parts are very cheap compared to Scoobs etc.

Looking at the ad. it looks very clean too, and low mileage. I assume being a '89 'G' plate, it's a phase 1.5 (again like mine).

Look similar don't they!!!

Have fun, and register over on the www.205gtidrivers.com forum - well worth it for info and cheap parts!!!

I'd say they are far more fun to drive than any Subaru. They need to be controlled, unlke the scooby that does it all for you and makes you think you can drive.

The 205 will give you feedback and hurt you if you mess up!

I don't do this as a rule, but I'm gonna agree with you there re. the control.

For some reason I feel more confident going around tight corners in the Pug than I ever did in the Scoob's I've owned. Funny thing is the last Scoob I had had all the suspension upgraded and still feels the same as my 205 now which only has lowering springs on the front with rear torsion bar dropped a notch. I never realised how good and stiff the original set-up on 205's was until I bought it and drove it. Made the Scoob's standard suspension seem barge like

Another weird thing I find myself doing (with a 20 year old car), is what I did after getting out the Scoob; looking back while walking away.

For me thoughl, one of the best, if not the best, thing's about ownership, is the amount of comments and general interest in these. Your 18 year old chavs all know what a Scoobaru is which used to be tiresome, but it's all the older guys, or genuine car enthusiasts that get me. The "don't see many of these around any more" and "wow, remember years ago I wanted one of these, how does it drive" comments are brilliant.

These are brilliant cars: as other posters have stated. Definetly more fun to drive than a subaru. My friend has a 1.6 gti rally car and it is like a go kart. I've also recently had a run in a tuned 1.9 gti road car, and a mi16 rally car. All three are fantastic! So responsive, and so much feel when being driven hard...

When I get back into work etc and monies better, I would love to either drop a tuned Mi16 in the engine bay, or even a 2.0 turbo lump. One of these with circa 200-220bhp would be proper lairy 130bhp can be fun at times though with a 905kg kerb weight. I think Flix 1.9gti track car is around 725-750kg now He took me out in it a couple weekends back at a Blyton trackday. Jesus, I didn't realise with a little fettlign what these cars can honestly do round corners. He has obviously totally stripped it out, added strut braces, stiffened it up with poly buches all round etc, but my god, it was so much fun

Don't need too fella. Keep it clean and just replace old worn parts. Usual stuff like bushes/rubbers etc. wear that's all.

I'm getting tempted now after seeing Paul's and how much they still go for.........

I've a 1984 500 SEC that I barely use and that gives 12mpg that would pay for a mint 1.9.

Was it K reg that they ended the run?

I've seen 93-94 L-plates on ebay/pistonheads.
Only thing is with them is they have a CAT exhaust system so have to fanny about a bit more and it reduces power by about 7-8bhp (going from 205 site that is).

Mint 1.9's on P/heads are over £2k really. well from what I've seen, but don't knwo how many of them sell that high.

Default CATS

all 205's on K plates will have come with a cat but J plates no cat.
I didn't realise you could get a clean 205 for that money! I used to have a miami blue 205 with a mi16v lump with twin 45's on it, quick as **** but kept on blowing drive shafts and gearboxes!

Link I posted above. www.205gtidrivers.com and follow the link to the forum.

When I wanted to join, I had to send an admin mail as the site doesn't just open itself up for new members like this place - saves trolls if you have to 'work' to register. Usually you give them your username and password details you wanna use, then they register them. You fill in all other details and start a thread in thr activation page. When a mod see's this, you then get activated by them.

Best thing is, they have a bad traders/sellers area to discuss things, and also moderate every for sale/wanted/group buy thread and post.

I assume you were referring to another Peugeot website, as this has loads of members on daily.

I've had a black D reg 1.6, a red 1.6 H reg and a black E reg 1.9.

Sold the D plate to pay for the insurance on a GTIR and only just covered 1 years premium!

Bought the H plate for the Mrs but being a bit of a lightweight she couldn't cope without power steering.

The E plate was a bit buggered so drove the wheels off it for a couple of months and sold the E and the H to a lad who specialises in 205s to make room for my Impreza.

(I always tell this story) Before buying the Impreza I almost bought a Sorrento Green 205 with a genuine TT conversion. Apparently one of two ever. I wanted a 205 turbo more than MI16 or any other conversion. Probably not the better drive compared to MI power but I just wanted to hear a dump valve on a 205

I'm selling my Jeep Cherokee at the moment and if I don't get another scoob, I'll probably go for another 205. It would have to be minty mint, sorrento green with at least 1.9 but preferably MI power (finding a turbo one will be doubtful I guess) and as near to cosmetic standard as possible and about £2 - 2.5k budget.

I've tried to get on to 205drivers before and jumped through the hoops asked of me but still didn't get a pass. Shame because I really do fancy another and it will be cheaper to buy and run than a scooby.

Just don't fall into the trap of modding it, or trying to achieve the 200bhp mark. Not only does it make it far too quick and not as enjoyable as it was before, it also costs you a ridiculous amount of money!!

I have a list of parts/costs for when I did mine and its terrifying to read and doesn't include everything I spent on it either!!

They are good fun though, and I may get another eventually.
