Aftermarket exhaust systems...
Does anybody have any good links to online shops for after market exhausts systems? When money is better, I want to replace the system on my 205GTI for a nice stainless steel one. Currently it's got the standard (prone to cracking) cast iron manifold which is attached via gasket to a downpipe, then centre/backbox. It's a bit of a bodge and a combination of stainless/mild steel.
I've asked across on the 205drivers forum, but they are quite **** about things like this and I didn't really get much out of them apart from very expensive standard looking systems. Bit like talking to a wall
But as I know most Scoobynetters have aftermarket exhausts (as I've had on all my Scoobs), I thought I would tap into your knowlegde.
Ideally I want a nice stainless system, but with a 4-branch manifold which cuts out the need for a downpipe and gains extra power.
So if you have some good links, it would much appreciated and I can save them in my favourites list. Things like Peco/Magnex etc etc are the types of good quality systems I'm looking at. Ebay doesn't throw much up for these now regards exhausts, otherwise I would piece together second hand parts for a new system.
Cheers
Andy

I used to own a 205 GTi when I worked at Fast Car mag. Back then, the anorak brigade and a number of specialist tuners swore by the OEM exhaust. It's a bit like the whole dump valve debate for Scoobys.
However, I opted for a full Magnex system (with a one-off black chrome tailpipe) and didn't feel any power loss. From memory, Magnex also supplied a four-branch manifold. Nice exhaust note, not tinny/raspy like the Scorpion.
Hope that helps...

I did used to buy that mag in my teen years not so long back - I'm ashamed to admit.

It was a good laugh to work on. Left my mum a bit red-faced when she told her friends her son had become a journalist, only to find a mag full of t&a

It used be ahcicken nugget and promise they'd get in the mag. That's inflation for you.
Luckily the scenery was evened out by the cover model photo shoot. Don't think I've ever made as many cups of tea since...

What I'm trying to do is piece together a second hand system like Scoob owners can do. Just a p.i.t.a. with fitments for the gTI thats all. I'm trying to source a second hand 4 branch manifold that would fit onto a centre section a guy on the 205 forum is selling.
I wouldn't be so bothered with changing my exhaust at all if it wasn't for the vibrating and serious back pressure running through it. Bloody thing squeeks like a bitch too, and I can't find the exact spot where it's coming from, as I'm in the car obviously

Still gotta source a 4branch manifold though. The system on the car now is bloody loud and decent enough, just can't find where the squeeking is coming from, so I wanna change the system for a new good quality one.

from memory magnex used to do a nice sounding system but didnt give much of a gain over the OEM system.the 205 gti was apparently well set up and extra power gains are difficult to achieve from minor modifications.
dont spend a fortune on it save for another scoob.

I had a Magnex on one of my old 205's.. sounded nice without being stupid loud. Good quality piece of kit.
I had a Peugeot Sport Group N exhaust on my Mi16 track 206, which kept the noise down but was made from mild steel.
DES Developments (the Mi16 specialists) Peugeot 205, 309, 405, Mi16, GTI, S16, GTI-6 probably do the best stainless setups.
