£1k car just to keep my insurance (ncb) current.
I'm going to buy a car just to keep my NCB current, i'll only use it for about 100 miles a month tops so i figure i may as well get the most uneconomical, polluting, Co2 choking beast i can
My feeling of smugnes when driving though the Greany/eco-warrior/anti car city i live in (Oxford) will be IMMENSE. I will probably enjoy driving though London too, pouring out 350+ g/KM of Co2 and buring a gallon of Super Plus every 5 miles or so
If it breaks i'll break it for parts and get my money back, if it keeps going it will still be worth £1k forever. WIN-WIN.
I'm thinking:
Range Rover Vouge SE 3.9 V8
Jaguar XJS V12
Jaguar XJR Supercharged S6
Some kind of Rover V8, not sure what i could get.
Give me more choices/ideas please

I've got a 3.9 Rangie as an off road toy, it's amusing when I tell people that I pay the same road tax as they do on their 1.6 focus 160 quid a year fully comp insurance too.
Get one with as much MOT as possible, and watch out for rust. Bit dated inside but I love 'em. Mines an auto, fuel economy is dreadful but it goes well. I've embarassed a few Corsas off the lights

If you don't really need a car, why not buy an Mot failure for £50, insure it for a year then get someone to pay you £50 in scrap value. Also consider pre-1973 like an old Land Rover - free road tax.

Why buy a car if he doesn't need one. Go find a fiat panda or other group 1 car in a car park and insure that !

Does the car even need to exist? or be owned by you?
If you don't own it, you can never crash or claim. Just find the cheapest car to insure in existance, find one in the street and use that number plate.
Or just find a car that's been written off. Or make one up - not sure if insurance company will check. If so you just say 'oops'.
Probably not one of my better ideas but I've saved you a fortune, no risk and you keep your NCB. Insurance companies will love you too! Uncrashable car.
I'd certainly be thinking 'laterally' if I had the same mission...

Buy a ped, sit it in the corner of your garage and forget about it. Spend the £950 + £10 / month insurance saving + £55 a month fuel bill and enjoy a weeks holiday somewhere.

buying a cheapo car to keep NCB doesnt work ive had a couple of mates try it and they ended up spending £600 a year tax, insurance, MOT etc. then it breaks a lot.

You can keep it for Two years.
Transfering it to a bike or certainly a moped will not keep it going.
I don't fancy doing it in any dodgy way just to save a few hundred quid.
I like the idea of a vehicle to use IF i need to.
A sub £1K V8 Rangey with LPG conv and 12 months ticket would not lose any value and would always be a sought after utility vehicle even if it needed work doing to it whereas a £1k Fiesta or Golf that needs work doing is no good to anyone and scrap value only.
