Default TDI sport

mine is okay. its the estate. fits my three staffs in no problem. flat load area accomodates the odd fridge freezer.
good on fuel.
good spec.
good stereo.
handles surprisingly well too, i heard people say they lacked feedback and were dull to drive. mine isn't.
10 out 10 for mine with 77k on it.
competent motor.

Excellent car, drove few thousand in one as my boss had one as a company car. Really roomy in the estate, good all round and a fantastic stereo, liked it so much I got the golf estate as I did not want something quite that big!

Cracking diesels and really tunable!

Default 2.5 v6

ask any VAG head or technician they'll steer you away from the 2.5.
The 1.9 can be tuned to outperform it easily. the 1.9 is a brilliant engine whatever car it dwells in.

Had a 130 Saloon and even in a big car the 130PD engine packs a punch. Personally I would leave alone, they are quick enough and very reliable. Comfortable and return 50mpg no matter how you drive it. Bags of torque. If I were to buy a deisal it would be a 130PD varient, and have been tempted many a time with a A4 TDI sport because I was so impressed with the 130PD engine, and real world power it delivers.

My 2.5 A6 sailed past 100k with no engine problems My colleagues A4 1.9 PD 130 sailed past 35k before needing a turbo

2.5 was a cracking engine, sounds nice really smooth and linear power delivery probably no quicker in acceleration or midrange than a 1.9 but feels nicer and handles high speed quietly and smoothly.

My brother in law has the estate and it gets well used, he seems to like it, nice car to ride in, pulls well, dont really think you can go wrong with one.

i was thinking of the 2.5 because i live in Germany (i'm not German either by the way) and thought it would be better with the Autobahns, what is the matter with the 2.5's then? i always though they were good engines being in the Audis as well ?

Is the 1.8 Turbo worth looking at?

The 2.5 are good when they are running ok, but once you get a problem they are £££ to fix, they use the old diesel pump rahter than unit Injectors (pd) like the 130, i'd go for a 130 sport with around 80k on the clock. Wouldn't bother with 1.8t, poor fuel economy and prone to oil pump failure after 60k.

P.S Keep an eye out for water leaking into the NSF footwell as can cause big problems, Check with your local VW dealer as there is a Workshop campaign, if it's outstanding they will repair it for free.

Here's my report from 5 years ownership of a Sport saloon:

https://www.scoobynet.com/other-marq...tml?showfull=1

Summary: great family barge, "safe" handling, watch out for front suspension knuckle joints and make sure it's got a full VAG service history (i.e. that PD oil has been used)

Excellent, thank you all for your comments, I think I shall go for the car as per the title a 130bhp Tdi sport estate, I think it will do just fine.
