Default Passat CC photo: what do you lot reckon?

Saw this at the weekend. I thought it looked nice, but I guess there will be thousands of them on the roads soon and they won't get a second look. Like the Merc CLS barge.

I like it for a VW

Better looking than the Merc IMO, and what the Passat should have been from the start.

That passat is gorgeous . we have a demo at work and it is a really nice car. vw are still doing the normal passat so they should stay rarer . the front end is really nice .

I was very tempted back in the spring when I came to order my current Estate, but the dealer knew less about the CC back then than I did and no UK pricing had been determined. Added to the fact that 2 young kids meant I needed a bigger boot (not for them!) than even my previous Saloon, and I let my head rule my heart and go for the Highline Estate with Leather interior. Dull, but practical: just like its owner.

Almost had my father buy the CC last month.....well until we worked out the price with a few sensible options. £29k+ for a 2.0TDI 140hp with DSG, Leather, Paint and few other things like parking assist, 18's, DAB radio. Nothing excessive by any means.

He bought a 525d instead.

Blimey, that's over £8K more than the list price for my 6sp Highline Estate (inc leather, metallic paint & same 140bhp engine). That's quite a premium for DSG, parking assist, an extra inch of alloy wheel and a DAB radio, even before you start to haggle. With hindsight it looks like I had no choice then on my budget. Your Dad was right to get a 525d.

I've got a 2.0 tdi dsg in my showroom,feather/alcantara, GT spec, 18's, met black and that's just under 27k

Higline is a nice spec though, leather/multi wheel/Macau wheels. . . You made the right choice!

There are more of the dull and practical types around than you'd think!
Here's my highline estate (2.0T). Almost a year old and hasn't missed a beat.

P.S. I've seen the Passat CC in the metal and it does look good for a mass-market car

When we thought about it, at over £29k, it didn't look like value for a 140hp diesel VW, especially when the 170hp engine was another £900. Sat Nav, Nappa leather seats, Xenons and Park Assist were the pricey options. The alternative was a 525d with the 197hp 3.0D. I'll admit the BM was nearly new and more money but it also had all of the above options included and is so much more car.

WITH the greatest of respect intended, how can you compare a more expensive, second hand mass produced saloon (due for replacement) to the brand-new niche Passat CC?

I think that BMW buyers are blinded by the supposed "cache" the brand carries sometimes. Admittedly, the 5 series is a blinding car to drive, but so "anonymous" and admittedly, working for VW gives me "blinkers" but I don't appreciate the attraction of big BM's.

And the eyewatering depreciation when you come to sell/trade. . . . ALL BMW's are £2000+ behind book value at the moment. I have just taken a 325dMsport in p/x and it books at £19550 (it's currently losing £455 a MONTH in depreciation!), best offer on it is £17225!

You`re right, I`d compare the Passat to the E39 5 series, the BMW is still the better car to be honest.

Niche Passat CC? Is that VW speak for poor projected sales figures? I imagine the Passat CC will give the Pheaton a run in the poor sales figures league (I`m sure you`ll retort with a packed order book etc etc).

A BMW 5 series is streets ahead of a Passat, I had a 2.0 TDI Sport Estate DSG Passat for 20,000 miles and it was dire. Shocking build, lethargic and insipid to drive. Oh, residuals were poor too.

The reason the 5 is a mass produced car is that they`re so good, the driving dynamics are generations ahead of the Passat.

Many cars are not making book at the moment, I`m sure many VW`s are behind as well.

I`ve owned eight Volkswagens in the past but I am not blind to their failings anymore.

And VW's aren't anonymous? All mass produced cars are anonymous, even Porsches these days.

I know being a good salesman means that you have to believe in your product, but come on. Passat vs 5-series...

Not so fast Mr. Banana

I could choose between a fully-loaded 2.0T Passat estate Vs a less well-spec'd 523 estate or reasonably atired A6 2.8FSI. The Beemer got KO'd for the looks alone and the fact the dealer was a spiv . The E39 was a great-looking car and I wouldn't have hesitated to pick a modern version of it above the VW, but the E60 has looks even its mother couldn't love. Did Ssangyong have a hand in it??

The SE is unnecessarily plain, I agree. The sport looks pretty good I think though, maybe not as good as the E39 but it's more up-to-date.

I don't think it's fair to rule out BMWs because of the dealers. Even VW dealers can be slimy sods, present company excepted

I know of a company car driver in with a seized engine. March 08 (08 plated car) diesel and he's done 12000 miles. The oil light came on at 3,000 miles, and he ignored it. He thought that because the car was on a 20,000 mile regime he didn't need to secrvice it. That WAS a BMW, but hardly anything to do with the car really is it?

I do alot of driving, and to be honest, most of the cars you see broken down are vw/audi, and considering that the same engines/transmissions are used in seat/skoda, you dont see many of those broken down
I did actually do some work experience in lookers in oldham quite a while back, some nice jokes going about, but what really got me was the quality of the cars (or lack of ) considering they were meant to be a quality marque
But the example you pointed out is incompetence, not a mechanical fault like this was (car was being recovered as it looks as though it wouldnt start) hence it does state in the owners handbook about oil levels and the need to regulary check them

Tony

PS its not a dig at you, just at vw/audi for being far too overrated, if you worked in a peugeot garage for example id not be posting this
