All,

My mate has just phoned me from Norfolk with a problem, (he's on his hols!).

He has a 52 plate TDCI 130hp Mondeo. The car has started hissing loudly when accelerating. He says there is no obvious power loss and he can't spot an obvious split turbo pipe, though it feels a bit lumpy.

I've googled it for him but it was a bit inconclusive - lots of stuff about an EGR valve ?!

He drove it today for 50 odd miles and nothing happened, but he is worried about engine damage etc, especially considering he has to tow his van back to North Wales on Friday.

Any ideas please?

Has he removed any turbo pipes? If not the leak (if there) may not be obvious.

Sounds to me like a boost pipe as either split or become disconnected.

Seriously, sounds like a leaking hose relating to the Turbo. As no loss of power, it could be related to pipes associated with the waste gate?????

His wife has backed the tail pipe into a wall kinking it and causing hissing.....

That would be sarcasm if I'd not seen it done.
