My new 172
You may remember I posted about my 172 being written off. Well I've been out cleaning the new one so I thought I'd show it off. Been really happy with it

Been thinking about getting one of these for a while now.
Just the niggling doubt about reliability and build quality though.
Saying that they cant be worse than a Scoob
Lovely seats btw - did they come with the car?

look far nicer in black, did consider one a while back, but went to look at them and couldnt believe the terrible build quality, put me right off, and i can honestly say that my 14 year old sti wagon is better screwed together, saying that though there is no denying that the 172 is a very capable performance car

Not had any problems with reliability yet. Had the last clio for just over a year. People seem to moan about the build quality but I actually think its pretty good. Much nicer than my 94 wrx was.
The seats I bought from a cliosport member. I needed to sit lower. I wouldn't recommend the standard seats for tall people.

tidy example there, i have one just like but in silver. they are a hoot but not as quick as the scooby it replaced but then in the bends its amazing what they out corner.
how tall are you?. i have the same problem so was condsidering the different seats as the standard ones do seem to sit you pretty high up.
want to take mine on a track soon and see what they can do.

Dave, I'm 6'5 so pretty tall. I was just gonna go for Daytonas but then the Misanos came up for sale on cliosport.net. I paid £500 including subframes and they are the full on carbon fibre jobbies. Perfect condition too. I suggest you keep your eye on the for sale section over there.
I must stress though that the cobra seating position is only 2-3cm lower than standard. I got my brother to chop and re-weld the subframe to lower it another inch. This picture gives you an idea of how much lower it is:
I'm so glad I did it though as I now fit the car perfectly.
I'm also planning on a few trackdays. Got the standard wheels waiting to shred the tyres off Just been set back a bit with costs as this car was a little more expensive than the cheque i got for the last one.

I used to have one of these, the only problem that i ever had was the constant rattles from some ware or another which was a right pain in the ****. Reliability wise i only ever need to change the coilpack and 02 sensor.
Good value for money motors, excellent on fuel as well considering the performance, 35+ mpg on a run.

might well get some decent seats like recaros / cobras and chop the subframe down.
i am 6ft3 so if you can fit i should.
they are cracking fun to drive but a bit on the small side for long trips.

I have a 182 cup and an STI.
To be honest I am beginning to find myself in the 182 more and more. It's so easy to drive and sooooooo much fun trying to pop the inside rear wheel!
For those who are thinking of getting one, do so as they really are as good fun as the reputation suggests.
And yes, I too have a rattle (from the drivers B pillar). Personally, small things like that don't bother me, after all its a hell of a car for the money and it's the driving experience that matters to me. If I wanted build quality than I would have bought a boring german car insted!
They are genuinely quick too. The thing I like is you have to work to go quick in these cars, they really are a rewarding drive. The STI is more of a point and go car and accordingly, in some rare situations, not so much fun (am I really saying this?)
