Unhappy

2 months ago my gearbox went on my puma. Ford put a new gearbox into the car and the car hasn't driven the same since. Anyone on here own/drive a 1.7 puma? I need to know what speeds it does in the gears because since having my new gearbox it is lower geared that before and doesn't pull. It used to do say 64 mph in second at the limiter before and now hits the limiter at about 55mph for example. Ford say the gearbox is the same but I think they are talking out of their ***** and don't want to help . Thanks for any help

perfect thanks. What I need to know are what rpm at what speed in what gear eg 1st gear 20mph = 4000 rpm and so on. It is my thinking that my new gearbox is incorrect because in 5th gear I always found that you get excellent fuel consumption below 4000 rpm which worked out to about 82mph, no the same rpm =76mph and so on through the other gears It also has bad flatspots in 1st gear and things improve (slightly) when you change to second. It is also very rough (almost kangarooish) when you pull away sometimes (not my driving honest) any help would be really appreciated. I am also not that far from northampton I am just off junction 4 of the m40. Thanks again

Talking

Someone on another post (I posted in loads of places) recommended I try pumapeople.co.uk so I went on there and it said about a torque limiter in 1st gear. The gearbox speed sensor reads the acceleration in first gear and cuts the torque as needed, so if you disconnect that it doesn't limit the engine. I thought ok that way it won't know it has the wrong gear ratios and disconnected it. It now runs properly just gotta convince ford that they screwed up not easy I fear. keep you posted.

Astraboy thanks mate, speak to you soon

Some speedometers calculate speed from a series of pulses sent by a wheel in the gearbox. Maybe there's something up here, and it's only the speedo that's out? Alternatively, these pulses might be used by the ECU to calculate fuel etc hence causing secondary problems? Don;t know, just a theory....
