5.7 Litre V8 Vauxhall Monaro
Anybody got one??
If so whats the real world MPG like?
Service & Running costs?
They appear to be bit on the soft side suspension wise, but i just really fancy a big lazy V8 with bags of torque from low down.
Good value for money as well

Take a wild guess. Ancient 5.7 litre petrol V8....now let me think.
Seriously though, around town it will be shocking and on the motorway around the low 20s, mainly thanks to the long gearing and loads of torque. Don't forget petrol prices are going nowhere but up.
Nice car though...very nearly bought a VXR a year or two ago.
Edited to say Autocar got 17mpg on test in the VXR. Nice.

The LS1 maybe 12years old now, but then, Merc's V8 isn't that far behind, Jag's V8 is older as is BMW's M62 (albeit with different cylinder heads). Non of which are exactly pluming daisies out the exhaust
Given all that: LS7 is better than all of them
Wonder when Holden will be allowed to get their mucky paws on that 7.0litre monster
Can't comment much else on LS1 Monaros, as most of my experience was with LS2 varients - with the uprated brakes, stiffer suspension, more power, better fuel consumption, pathetically useless boot etc etc.

No worries.
Did toy with a VXR myself when choosing my current car, but the tiny boot put me off a bit, followed by the knowledge that the mpg WILL be worse than my scoob (I like to press on 80% of the time) and how easily they swap ends on greasy or wet roads. After all it's quite often greasy and wet on the roads in good ol' Blighty (plus I live in Dover where foreign lorries regularly dump diesel on the local roads ).
They sound lovely though...!!

To be fair, the LS1 for a 5.7 litre 2 valve per cylinder, pushrod motor gets very good MPG. My Toyota Soarer only gets 16 mpg from it's infinitely more technologically advanced quad cam, 4 valve per cylinder valvetrain and smaller 4.0 litre capacity. The difference is that the earlier LS1 only has 57bhp/litre vs. 65 for the 1UZ-FE in the Toyota.

They don't need any other engine mods - all safe on stock internals. Other than a remap. (and brakes )

Bodski, try here FULL THROTTLE SPEED - Store Front Page for some tuning products. Also look at the Maft Pro, this is a fuel, timing, boost and NO2 controller, can be a bit of an **** to map but the results can be outstanding. Engine Advantages in Witham have done a few and my mate is the importer.
