Renault Clio 255 3l V6
Been getting itchy feet lately and looking around at other cars. (i know i will regret selling the scoob - don't start me off!!)
Considered for a mad moment a Holden Monaro or a V8 mustang for ****s and giggles but the Clio 255 seems to tick all the bonkers boxes at present so have been thinking of one. Looks like a mad little fun machine and you don't see many about. Anyone have any experience of these? What are they like as a daily driver?
I would like something unusual and as mad as a box of frogs - not too worried about practicality or fuel consumtion, anything else that i should consider?
Looking for the grin factor (smilar to what i get in the scooby) and price range 15-20k

I had a passenger lap round the ring in a press car Mk2 V6. They are supposed to be the ones with the handling sorted. It had an awful understeer first then snap oversteer tendancy. After a pretty hairy spin we limped round the rest of the lap. Thankfully it put me off owning one as I had the same hankering as you. My agressive driving style wouldnt have suited the car at all........
I will keep an eye out for you in Andover in one though ........
With a bit of luck my new tango toy will be around soon so you wont miss me

What do you want to know? Drop me a PM or reply to this thread
Re GP's comments above - I've found mine to be very picky about tyre condition and tyre pressures. Running at the correct pressures - it feels great. Let them go off the boil and the understeer creeps in. It certainly teaches you a new respect for mid engined and RWD cars! Not the easiest thing to master, but great fun all the same.

Chris,
Many thanks, not sure what i want to know really though as it was just a mad thought. I have read your replies to other threads on this subject so feel reasonably well informed now.
I was just having that "if i didn't have the scoob what else would i want" problem. I feel like i need the performance, reasonable handling and i just wanna go drive it fun factor from another car but i just can't seem to find anything that llights my fire at present.
Looked at the Clio as it just seemed a little mad and a bit different
Not sure if there is anything out there for the sub £20k price range that will make me want to drive it like the scoob does. Don't really know what to do but just fancy a change really for a while, i'm sure that there are many others on SN in a similar position.
Most likely will regret whatever i choose and buy another scoob in the end anyway !!!

As my username suggests I've got an R5T2 (the V6 Clio's daddy) that I've owned for about 15 years. It's in my blood now and I'll never sell it. I would love a V6 as well: but only the Mk 2 255 that you're interested in. A friend of mine took his very late model to the 'Ring and came back with the canvas showing through the tyres so he must have enjoyed himself in it! Who cares if it's not perfect. Nothing else comes close for (relatively) new car presence at the price.

True enough
They are a little bit nuts - far from perfect (but still rated as a 5 star car by Evo, last time I looked). It is such a credit to Renault that a mainstream manufacturer could even contimplate making this car
I love it because it is so different, because it is so rare, because it makes people smile (and let you out in traffic (try that in an M3 )) and because it is ever so slightly barking mad.
The Mk Is are a handfull (witnessed by the number written off!), the Mk IIs are an altogether different car. The biggest downsides are the very low ground clearance and the terrible turning circle, which can make my local Sainsbury car park a bit of a nightmare.
I'm very glad to own one - they are right up there in my all time fantasy car garage and one of the few generally affordable 'super' cars around anywhere.
I don't reckon I will have mine for that long (change in circumstances and probably needing a slightly more sensible car), but I don't for a minute regret buying it.
If you are serious, speak to John at Rims Performance Cars - John is a bit of a specialist and always has a few nice ones in stock.
