Revs like crazy, corners like its on rails, 380 miles to a tank if your careful, 250 if you boot it everywhere. Boot is huge, Recaros are amazingingly comfy.

Downside is a lack of torque.

Go for it.

very nice car, but you will struggle to find one with low miles on it, they all seem to be in or approaching the 100k mark now

Totally agree, I've driven one. Worse still:-

1. If you change up @ 8499rpm (it cuts out @ 8500) it falls out of the V-Tec power band (scary when overtaking).

2. Due to above - takes a lot to get used to.

3. As Flightman says - feels like it has no torque at all!

4. Just too much hard work for road use - would be ok on a track maybe.

Just my personal experience. Nice enough car to look at though. Better with a Turbo

1. Isn't that only 1st to 2nd?

100k is nothing to worry about on the engine if it has been looked after, but the gearboxes aren't the strongest on these, synchros going is "quite" common

Not had the Accord, but have had 2 vti crx's and a integra dc2 over the years, had the integra loner then i have owned anything by a big factor.

Go get one, yes if you change up early it will loose power, but thats half the point its not easy to drive, its not a torque laden lazy drivers car, but when you get it right it'll be very fast indeed and the buzz you get from knowing you got it spot on is undeniably the best bit.

Besides the vtec howl is to die for.

Go get one now!

thanks for the replys .yes i bought one in black.lovely recaro seats.feels nice.163bhp/ton which is better than the octavia vrs 135bhp/ton.as you say what a growl when vtec kicks in much better sounding than my civic type r which was wheelspinning every where.whereas the accord has a limited slip diff as standard.much better .can i do anything to make the vtec growl sound even better?

Honda : honda accord type R

Not bad price for the miles. Most are hovering around the 90k+ miles.

yes yes yes yes !! ive had 3 now in 7 years .... i always seem to go back to them after a bit of turbo fun for a while .... simply bomb proof engines and anything under 140k will give u no probs , just make sure the gear sync has been done if u buy a pre-facelift (which in my opinion look better) .....

quite simply the best FWD car u can buy in my opinion ..... very limited tuning options and short of fitting a supercharger you will be lucky to see anything more then 12bhp gains no matter what u throw at the engine
guys up and down the country are still trying to perfect a stand alone ecu that wont make the car run like a bag of nails .... i had a HONDATA ecu in mine briefly (1st atr in the country with one fitted) which did give me 22bhp gain and 18lb torque gain but it was soon removed as it just made it run like a dog

buy one but just apreciate it for the machine that honda intended and dont try to kill it by adding bolt on extras ...... k&n typhoon and a decent de-cat system will make it scream like a banchee just beware of the drug like sound as i rarely got more than 200miles from a tank as i was permenently in V-TEC!!

no sorry mate the dc5 is a great car but its 2 heavy and lacks feeling through the stearing wheel , also its nit-picking but the change into v-tec is almost non existant , i think in the dc5 they have taken away the intergas raw edge and and the kick in the back you get from the accords v-tec has been taken away .. yes it is a more grow up car than the early intergras but then who wants a grow up type-r lol

As above...

Yep thats the i-vtec for you, a soft edge to the bit that was best sharp! Very annoying, No one wants a softer Type R but that said who wants one with a torsion beam suspension at the back (New CTR), what were they thinking?!

Honda Accord Type R
Top speed: 140 mph
Max power: 209 bhp
Max torque: 158 lb ft
Weight: 1408 kg

DC5 Type R
Top speed: 146mph
Max power: 217 BHP
Max torque: 152 Lb/Ft
Weight 1173 KG

Too Heavy? compared to the ATR it's a lightweight.

I agree, after the introduction of i-vtec the cam change has been 'diluted' somewhat and is more refined, but, you still get the complete character transformation, it surges forward quite enthusiastically, in a manner similar to the S2000. I'd hardly call the change into V-tec non-existent.

I certainly wouldn't say that it lacks feel either, in fact it communicates quite beautifully

Would I rather have a DC5 ITR over an ATR? Absolutely.

Given the choice between a DC5 and an ATR it would be the DC5 every time, in an ideal world. That said if it was to be my only car, and I had kids, or needed to fit a tow bar or any of the other real world things I can see why people would thus buy a ATR. Would love an DC5 though, its coming up to xmas, maybe someone is feeling extra generous?!

The DC5 was from 2001/2 till 2007 I think. I fancy one myself but I keep getting drawn back to an RX-8 for the RWD. I bet I end up with an Eos though (it will be the wife's car).

I have never driven the Accord, used to own a Civic Type R though, and it was a hoot to drive, the Accord is a lovely looking car IMO
