Default Driving a BMW 650 at the mo'

Got one of these as a loan whilst my car has repairs. Must say I'm really suprised, its a nice piece of kit. Handles and steers really well, seems to understeer less than my M5

What does it go like?

does it have more mid range as the M5/6's you tend to need (so i've been told) to rev them a bit!!!!

It does go really well. More immediate grunt than my M5, which at first makes you think the 6 is faster, but then where the 6 starts to run out of grunt the M feels like it could go on for ever and ever.
The annoying thing about the 6 is the autobox that changes up too soon even in Sport mode. Doesn't seem as sporty as the autobox in my old AMG

That would explain things then! Just shows HOW much difference a few hundred kgs makes to the handling. The new Audi RS6 weighs even more, 2 tonnes.

But I would have thought they'd be barely 100kgs between them. I was really amazed at the difference, it's over 300kgs! That's like asking four adult passengers to step outside!

A 650ci is lighter than a 2.0 TDCI Mondeo

Looking on the BMW site there is only about 130kg difference between a 650 and an M5 in unladen weight, 650 is 1725kg IIRC.

Based on this I reckon the new RS6 may grip well but will not be fun to drive. It'll be even 200kgs heavier than my 5.

1530kg would be similar to the new 135i, less than the E46 M3 and barely heavier than a UK STI.

Boot is not bad and I've had one child seat in the back, no reason why a small child can't fit aswell. Saying that I'd only consider it if you have another family car aswell for long journies or when shopping with the whole family.

If there is not such a weight difference why does the 650 seem to change direction better and understeer less than my so called 'best supersaloon in the world' Maybe my wheel alignment is out?

650 has run flats (quite noisy) mine doesn't. Mine is at the dealer as mentioned so I can't check which ones they are at the moment.

I think Evo's recent tyre test had a modest spec Mondeo lapping the same as a Merc C350 when the best tyres were on the Mondeo and the worst on the Merc. Best and worst were still all good brands, Goodyear and Pirelli IIRC.

Impressive for the 650 that is does so well on runflats though.

Maybe geometry is a good idea on the M5.
