BMW Z4 3.0 ROADSTER
Hi,
Thinking of buying one of these pretty soon. Anyone had one or had any experience in one? I know 2 seater are hairdressers cars but this seems different from the rest. I love the shape!

Nothing beats open top motoring. Don't worry about the image, I mean you're not worried about your sexuality are you?
Don't know what you are currently driving, but if an Impreza you may be a little disapointed with the performance, as the 3.0l only produces 231 bhp IIRC, later models had the 3.0l which is now in latest shape 3 series which is about 260 bhp.
I would personally consider a Z3M, you could get a nice example with the budget you are proposing plus you'll have a little left over for a remap and handling mods.

I used to have a 280BHP impreza but i'm not really bothered that its not manic as long as it feels like it has torque. I'm not too keen on the Z3's they had a bad reputation and the interior is looking pretty dated now. I just love the look of the Z4 especially when I fit 19" M6 wheels on it.

Yes, I think they look great, especially as above.
You'll soon get p*sed off when chav chariots leave you in their wake.
Not much you can do in the way of tuning for big power with NA engines (as you no doubt know). You could always supercharge it, plenty of people who have.

Nice, the 3.0Z4 fits the roll the best, its more than quick enough, well made and is great if you are out for a nice run to the country in the summer girlfriend/wife in tow.
Take care near the kerbs with those 19" rims... ouch

Paul. Please don't put those awful wheels on a Z4, not only will you ruin the looks but you'll **** the ride up as well. Stick with the 17s or if you must the 18s, junk the RFTs and put some decent rubber on it and it'll go fine. You're not going to be embarrassed by standard Imprezas unless the other guy is going to drive like an idiot unless its wet of course.
The steering can be a bit inert with a harsh ride (cured by RFT removal) and the sound of the engine when being caned easily gets into the top 10 engine sounds in my opinion. You should be able to pick up a decent model with an intact warranty but I wouldn't bother with any of the poverty spec models - look good but no oomph.

Flatcapdriver. I know what you mean about the Runflats. i've never heard a good word about them. My fiancee has a Mini Cooper and its a very harsh ride but she likes them as she knows she will never be stranded somewhere which makes me feel better too. I will definately get rid of the runflats straight away. I really like the 19's but BMW still have some nice 18's on the 3.0.

BMW junked the RFTs on the Z4M which is why I've got a compressor and a mousse kit in mine which is simply an expensive alternative to the mousse you can buy from Halfords in a can. I'd suggest binning the RFTs and buying a couple of cans and end up with a decent ride on the MINI.

Sorry, but who is suggesting that everyone wants to drive about like a dick?
To me, outright performance is a very important factor and I would personally go for performance to the detriment of other qualities. It would wind me up silly if every Astra VXR and other similar cars continuously left me in their wake.
Don't insinuate that people are dicks because they want to stretch the legs of their cars every so often.

^^^ Yes, because I have a small ***** and therefore feel inadequate so proving myself on the road boosts my self confidence.
Please don't speed in future as that would be coming down to my level.

Unsurprising really. To my mind, drop tops should be designed from the outset as convertibles rather than ripping the roof off, inserting additional cross members and then wondering why its got more scuttle shake than raspberry jelly.
The Z4/350Z comparison illustrates this point well, however, the 350Z coupe is still exceptional value and probably the equal of the 3.0l Z4C.
