We've had one since February, 56 plate and done about 5k miles in it.
Awesome car, a pleasure to own so far.
We had a BMW 320CD Coupe before hand, but we needed 5 doors for when my son arrived in March and going from a £30k coupe down to a £15k hatch it needed to be special. I wanted all the toys that the Beemer had with the quality interior feel, plus reliability.
We tested a BMW 120d, Focus, Golf TDI and a few others. I like my interiors, and the BMW interior was very "cockpit-like". The Ford, VW etc were all very bland and the BMW 1 was way too small in the rear.
The Civic was a last minute contender and we were sold straight away. The interior is spot on, the space all around is unreal and the little details are superb. We went for the ES model so it had all the BMW toys we were used to plus more - auto lights, auto wipers, cruise, climate, cooled glove box, full glass roof, folding mirrors, traction, CD etc etc
As a family car its excellent - rear doors open to 90 degrees for easy access, and the magic rear seats are superb - they fold flat as normal, but they also fold upwards giving you loads of room in the back if you need it - a mountain bike will fit in.
Cost wise, it does about 45mpg round town, and over 55mpg on a run. Insurance is £360 a year in the mrs' name, tax is £110 a year. Being serviced next week for £143.
Performance is very good, approx 140bhp so similar to our previous Beemer.
Only niggles are rear visibility, though you get used to it, the shiny cockpit parts can get dirty easily but thats about it.
I don't regret our purchase one bit and may in fact try the Type R once the lads grows up a bit, or I may swap my 205 for a Type R to run with the diesel if my STI idea falls through.
Any questions let me know?

We have had an EX model for 18 month now and to be honest have been a little disappointed. Both the ECU and battery have had to be replaced and Honda UK have messed us around and they tried to charge us for 6 weeks car rental will it was being fixed. Not really what I expected from a Honda.
The vis is bad out the back and would strongly recommend the rear park sensors

You just need to use your mirrors when reversing The visibility is the worse bit about them though, touch wood we haven't had any issues with ours as yet.
