Clio Trophy, Integra Dc5, Audi S3
Got about 10k, have to commute on lots of back roads, want to have some money in my pocket after running costs and insurance.
Clio is best value for money, all have similar 0-60's, owned an s2000 and a dc2 before, so love vtec, but I have a few points and a claim, so I'm thinking the Dc5 may be expensive to run, what with Brembos up front too + insurance.
I'm thinking the Clio will be fun and affordable to run, if I buy at the right price with my limited budget, it should not de-value too much as only 500 were made, not sure on the colour, but they've had rave reviews from what I've read. As I'm waiting for my ins money to come through, I keep on changing my mind like the wind, and driving a 50bhp diesel is doing my head in.
Audi with a map and Quattro ideal for winter, heavy car and with my budget could start becoming costly to run after day commuting on B road with pot holes. Dc5 not too sure on looks, but quite rare, but maybe a pain to sell on?
Any thoughts ?

Clio is a great little car, like you say it is cheap to run. and at the moment they are not depreceating at all, the missus bought 182 (not trophy) hers 14 months ago and they are still being advetised at a similar price?? Must be down to the luke warm reception of the 197.
Excellent car for A/B road driving, kept on the boil its got plenty of power and it does handle superbly, if you do motorway driving 80mph is over 4k rpm so can get a little tiresome if that kind of thing bugs you.
Bad points, cup suspension is pretty hard so not the most comfortable, a few rattles here and there.
Also the Audi is VERY good, had a remapped one for 2 years and loved every minute, it will be more expensive to run, although probably by not as much as you think, mpg is very good for the weight and power of the car 28 mpg was my daily commute, 32-36 on a Mway run. And if you stay away from the dealers services can be reasonable too. Problem is for 10k youll probably only get a high mileage example with a good few years under its belt (6 years old?!?) where as youd get a practically brand new clio for that money with a good chunk of warranty left.

After a DC5 in the end slightly modified, think I'm too old for the Clio, and ran a 16v and williams when I was younger, the Audi needs money spent on map and decent suspension to make it good, after owning a s2000 and a dc2, the dc5 seems natrual progression, seen a modified one, but am a grand short
Think I need a w-end job to pay for my car habit

In answer to the original poster, get yourself another DC2, they are great cars, I've had a DC5 and DC2 and if it was for work commute on A/B roads then DC2 for that price and you will end up with £3k in your pocket, a decent and modded DC5 is going to cost you more than £10k.

Agreed! Wonderful looking cars especially in white with the red seats. My wife owned a UK DC2 which I loved. The DC5 just looks even better. Keep away from one with FLO as part of it's reg though as it's alleged to have been in a bad accident ...

Are you mad? I think they are one of the best looking hot hatches ever...

We have a white one with black seats (red a bit too garish for us) coming in two weeks.
I may feel the need to post pictures
FLO is confirmed as being crash damaged by independant inspection I believe. Its been passed around various dealers all looking for some mug to part with the cash.
