Default Anyone ever owned .........

...........BOTH a classic Scoob and an Evo?

I have a classic with a good few mods, shoving out around 300bhp.

I've been tempted by an Evo VII FQ300.

I know about the service intervals, but what else will I notice/like/dislike if I change?

TIA,
Alcazar

How about upping the power a bit?

I reckon the differences will be quite small.

The Evo 9 FQ360 I tested was the best drivers car I have driven - yep, even nicer than an Elise 111R.

Have not owned the evo but tested a 260 and a FQ320 before buying my STi PPP. I was dead set to buy an evo right up until I test drove a STi and a WRX, it was a no brainer after that... seriously
My reasons for not buying the Evo were simple; as an everyday proposition it was just not very good. The 320 was extremely quick but when not on song it was twichy, bumpy and always seemed desperate to go flat out. The 260 was better and more useable and is still very fast although not in the same league as the fq's. My scooby is a match for a 300 in pace but may not be as good on the twisties but then it's good enough that I will never find its limit! At 30mph its every bit as comfortable and smooth as it is under hard acceleration.
The servicing didn't put me off as I don't care about that and I much prefer the look of the evo's (sorry, just being honest!). If I was only running the car for a few thousand miles a year I would have bought a 320, but I do 16 - 18k / annum so it was scooby hands down It does everything extremely well and is only truly out done by the evo's quite staggering cornering ability and again I would question how many people could actually make this count, given the lack of fear you need to use it fully!

Hope this helps dude. Not quite the comparison you were looking for I know but thought it worth sharing.

I have owned a STi I Type RA and an STi III and also a Evo 6 running 350bhp.

Can't tell you much about the Evo however, as I wrote it of 2 hours after picking it up

I've had an Evo 6 Tommi Mak and an FQ330 and now a version 6 RA.

The Mak was a great car i had Autronic ecu, anti-lag it was dyno'd @ 370bhp/353 torque, very much like the RA in the sense it was quite raw ( NOT AS RAW AS THE RA) Twin scroll turbo so the kick in the back isn't like the RA gives, but the RA dies at around 130mph where as the Mak went on.

Right the FQ, again awesome car, very capable, more cappable than me .lol, more refined than the Mak, but it just didn't do it for me, sure the performance was there but it just lacked personality, that's why i love the RA so much, it goes well, sounds mad and gives me a great buzz when i drive it, but i'd have another Evo again but i think it would be a 9 GT, all i can say is test drive one and see how you feel then go with your heart.

Hope i haven't bored you silly....lol

..Pete.

Evo VII's have a 48L fuel tank which limits range. May or may not matter to you. Standard brakes are prone to warping (juddering), even from just normal driving. My brothers old E6 had loads of problems with this, he tried quite a few different pad types. Tyre wear is high on these cars, evos in general. They drive amazingly well though.

Caught an old TG on UKTV, they drove an Evo and STi back to back, loved the Evo but would buy the Impreza for the practicalities of everyday life.
