Default New Mondeo......

.........just been sat in one at the local stealer. Titanium X model i believe. The old boy has an MY03 Zetec-S which is nice, but this thing is in a different league. The interior is just sweet. If they handle anything like the old model, Ford are on to a winner

Was in one on Wed. local dealer had one on display at local shopping park.

Was very impressed with the interior. As usual it was a top spec model they were showing.

More importantly the boot looked huge, very impresed with it.

Still not sure about the cost, like most cars in this class, buying a year old model seems like the sensible choice and saving probably close to 40%

Best thing is, wait a 12-18 months after launch and you'll pick one up for close to half the price.

That's true

You could even opt for an 'old-style' example, they are practically giving them away at the moment. We have stacks of ST's and Ghia X's (Hertz Hire Cars) that we use at work. Great cars to be honest

It's looking like its a great car. The thing that got me was how big it is, its as long as a Volvo V70.........

Like someone says above, I'll be looking at one in about 12-18 months time.

I haven't read the article but Autocar said something about it being better than the BMW 3 series, which in turn means it is better than the Audis.

Rarer too.

whilst other publications say its just about better than a VW passat. But autocar only said that on the cover. In the article it doesnt say anything of the sort. I have read the article BTW.

you can't compare a ford to a BMW or Audi

like saying Doncaster Rovers can compete with Manchester United - different class!

seen one of these today, as mate went to buy his missus a new car, the picture of the interior (above) extremely flatters it.

Thought not.

My last Audi (and it will be my last) was a shambles. Sold it after 12,000 miles, two steering racks, a complete new rear suspension and numerous niff-naff problems.

I`m not alone, check out the A3 8P forum on Untitled Document for the whole Audi quality experience.

Sorry but most of us drive cars not pikey vans.

Lost all my badge snobbery a few years ago - it allows you to discover how good mainstream brands are and how you pay through the nose for a nice dash and some canny marketing but worse handling.

Hmmm, I'm not entirely convinced

Maybe a few years ago I'd agree with you. But look at the direction of BMW now, they are a serious volume manufacturer, and getting further away from their premium brand heritage all of the time. For me you can't have it two ways, you can have premium or volume, not really both. (and the same goes for Audi obviously)

The Fords do a fine job, considering that they try to satisfy more of the market than BMW or Audi do. The Mondeo for example wants to be a Family Car, a Luxury Car, a Sporty Saloon, a Load Lugger, a Rep Mobile etc. Taking that into account, even the outgoing example is a fine achievment.

I was told by a Ford dealer in Germany that no ST model will be made and that the hottest version will be the Titanium X with the 5 cylinder 220bhp Volvo lump, I hope not because I'd like an ST version of the new model

I would be very surprised if they didnt make an ST version, Ford have worked hard over the past 5 or 6 years trying to get their sport image back up, now its there i cant see them ditching the ST, unless they go straight to RS

You're deluded. You really think it costs much more for Audi to manufacture an A4 than a Mondeo? It's all in the marketing.

And quite frankly the Mondeo is a better car than an A4.

Nice to see that BMW and Audi ad men have done their jobs on YOU.

Most of us judge by actual car merits however.
