Cool NOW RESOLVED Having second thoughts on next car...

Hiya

I was planning on getting an R33 GTR next when I loose the wrx ppp company car (quit my job today - woo hoo!).

I'm currently negotiating my notice period, will be 1 or 2 months.

Anyway, I've been scanning the classifieds on pistonheads, and got taken in by a nice Z3M.

What would you do? I don't really need four seats, and I'm due for the start of a mid life crysis...

Apart from the VANOS is there anything I need to look out for?

Does anyone know of any decent sites for info? I've researched the GTR, but not the beemer.

Cheers,

Ru'

Yeah, good point, but I'm scared off on the reliability side of things.

Temporary mind wobble has now passed, I'm back to normal.

Should be the proud owner of a GTR in two or three weeks.

Cheers; I did search and read the posts (honest!).

Deposit went down on GTR, just being tidied up and then it's mine (around 2 weeks).

Oh, and having new cams etc. fitted, more boost and a remap...

GF wasn't too pleased with me.

GF: "So you got it then?"

ME: "Yep."

GF: "What was the final price; how much did you get off?"

ME: "Mumble mumble mumble"

GF "What?"

ME: "Murfle Mutter Whisper"

GF "What?"

(this repeated a few times, GF getting more angry each time lol)

ME: "I got a great deal; I only paid £500 over the asking price..."

GF: " <edited as it can't be repeated "

I'm now alternating between thinking I've done the right thing, and thinking I could've done better. Oh well.

You did the right thing.

You have a Girlfriend, so you are clearly not a Homosexual. Buying the Z3 however would have made us think differently

Agreed; had this conversation with the GF; she said the GTR was more of a "man's car".

"What about the scoob?" I asked...

"Oh, that's a boy's car" was the reply...

lol

More than a bargain.

Even though the car was slightly over priced to start with, I've got this for the £500 over the asking price:

1) A few minor bodywork issues sorted
2) Full service
3) Relocated oil filter
4) New cambelt
5) New CAT 1 alarm
6) Brand new JUN cams
7) Remap
8) Air con re-gas

And best of all...

9) 6 month warranty on engine and transmission!

It's from a very well respected skyline specialist, so number 9) isn't just a paperwork con.

Can't wait to collect it (2 weeks, grrrrrrr )

edit - also new MOT and 6 months tax

I'll post more up in two weeks (if I can stop driving it for long enough) but just as a taster:

Nice - right colour too!

Are you amazed at how nimble it is for a big car, and also how even as standard it feels like a time machine??

I've only had about half an hour in it, and it was impressive.

I think it'll take a while to 'get the hang of it', which is what i'm after; I've got bored with the scoob to be honest.

It certainly shrinks though. Having just seen them in pictures I was amazed by how large they look when I started checking them out in the flesh.

Driving it was great; it feels so planted on the road (and the sound is great too!).

Now I've just got to wait two weeks for them to finish fettling it. Rubbish.

Comment noted, and partially agreed with. However, what the hell would a girl (i.e. the GF) know about a 'man's car'? lol

When you look about there's not much rwd stuff around, and with something like a griddancer or whatever the GTR can be switched to 'always' rwd.
