Default Chrysler 300c.....opinions...

Chrysler 300c is available for a 12 month lease for £330+VAT which, appears to me to be very good value, for what is a very different car to most on the roads....

Has anyone any experience of them?

What are they like to own/drive?

What do you make of the image?....yay or nay?...

Any decent forums etc for these?...Ive not been able to find any UK resources...

ta!

No experience of them, don't know what they're like to own and drive. Image-wise, it depends: add 20 inch spinners and look like a pimp (definite nay) or leave it standard and non-petrol heads will think it's a Bentley (yay).

I'd hope you'd be going for the 5.7 Hemi version?

5.7 hemi would be nice, but the 3.0 diesel appears to the one more suited to our tax intensive island!!

Oh, and the interiors look pretty gash. Typical yank tank. It's an old E-class Merc under the skin, isn't it?

A big Merc for far less than big Merc money - got to be a winner really.

When I first saw one I thought it was aweful, but I have to admit its grown on me.

AL - When you'd only ever recommend a VAG car - your opinion becomes pretty worthless.

Went to see one, albeit a plain Jane one, with no Bentley grill.......

Not particularly imprssed, interior looks/feels tacky and cheap, steering wheel is disgusting, rock hard and ancient design!

Think its back to Q7 hunting!!

Went to see a 300c Toruing today.

I liked it although it was fooking HUGE!!

Interior was OK but I suppose it depends what you want.
Vast interior, lots of leather although I too didn't like the a steering wheel.

Still thinking about the 48 hours test drive you can get through Chrysler though.

You won't get anything as good specc'd for the price I don't think.
It's got a strong Mercedes diesel engine in it.
Chrysler are keeping supply low so resale should be good.
Re-map gets 0-60 in 6 seconds and it's rear wheel drive.

I wouldn't track it so being good in the twisties isn't a concern for me. You'd need a wide road to overtake it lol

As if chrysler are really keeping supply low through the kidness of their hearts. Its because hardly anyone wants to buy one. Local chrysler dealer forecourt is jam packed with 300c's that never seem to move, and I never see people in there either. Huge discounts to be had.

Oh and 0-60 in 6 seconds after a remap is nothing but a wish. It aint doin it

You may be right as I can't say for certain....

Road Tests: Chrysler 300C CRD Road Test

Apparently only 2500 were brought into the UK in 2006.
I wouldn't call that a swamp of the market.

The dealer I visited yesterday only had 3 in stock and only one of them was a touring. I think I've only ever seen 2 others on the road in the North East.

There are none to be bought on Pistonheads and the ones on Autotrader seemed to have moved very little in terms of price. Dropping £4000 in their first year.

If a remapped 530d can do those sort of speeds why can't the 300c? It's got a Mercedes 3 litre V6 engine in it with standard figures of 220bhp and 376 lb ft of torque. I admit it's heavy but then so is the BMW.

Where I live in Tyne and Wear there's a guy using one as a Taxi!

I think they look nice in black with the windows tinted, a bit of a pimps/gangstas car, can't see something that size having any kind of performance/handling though

And whats makes you think a 6 sec 0-60 isnt possible, on what do you base your assertion, or is it more AL BS?

I hate to admit it, not being a fan of Chryslers, but I do rather like the look of the 300, especially when it has a HEMI under the hood, the SRT8 is very nice.

Interior is questionable, but then the same can be said for the majority of US cars.

one word - GANGSTER

i'd say it's different, i like the look of them and TBH they are mostly merc bits so i'd say fairly reliable

too many people just settle for a BMW because "everyone says they are great" - i say be an individual and people will notice!

Test drove one a few months ago and it was awful, horrible cheap interior ,nasty switchgear and leather that looks like vinyl , the car was brand new and I had to confirm with the salesman that it was indeed leather as there was no leathery smell at all.

The 5.7 I drove felt nice and quick but didnt really feel that much quicker than my leggy despite its 2700cc advantage , handling was at best barge like and I never really felt comfortable whilst I was driving, it feels very detached from the road and felt like i was sat on the car rather than in it (if that makes any sense).

I was also concerned with reliability and build quality as the 'brand new' car I drove had several faults , the handbrake (footbrake) didnt release properly and the light stayed on till you jiggled it a bit, the rear seats wouldnt lock back into position, the drivers electric seat had a faulty switch and just kept on going in which ever direction you had pressed it (squashed me against the steering wheel), boot release didnt work and a whole host of other small but annoying faults, not really the best example to be using as a demonstrator.

Overall I was very disappointed with the test drive , the main problem is the interior its so nasty you feel like you are being constantly reminded of how cheap the car is (for what you get) . I really wanted to like the car because its such a lot of car for the money but compared to the lexus/bmw/audi equivalents I also tested it was way behind in every department.

The best thing about the test drive was getting back in my leggy which felt like a go kart after the behemoth 300c.

The interior was the STOP sign I was looking for, for a car that 'pretends' to be a bentley, the interior was just pathetic, it felt, looked and was cheap......I was intending on testdriving, but the interior was so bad, Id feel utterly embarresed driving the thing!! I mean the switches...you get better ones on the new Fiat Puntos!!

Why do people think that this car is cheap?
There are some great cars available for £27/28k - why buy a poorly built one with suspect styling and what will inevitably be appalling residuals.
3.0 Legacy & C-Class are great cars. You can even dip in to new E-Class/A6/5 Series for that kind of money. There's a reason they are not selling - most of those who want them will have to wait a few years before they are allowed a licence.

How do I know this? Because my wife asked if one was a Bentley. I gave her a clip round the ear 'ole for her impertinence but that's how the general public percieves them. The reason most have tinted windows is so that no one can see how bad the interior is.

All I've got to say is, you can never go wrong with a Chrysler

Definite for shoddy interior. They had a couple parked in Kingston centre and I was drawn to the odd / interesting looks.
I then sat inside and laughed - really poor. I couldnt believe those 'leather' seats had even been near a cow - no way! Getting back into my 11 year old 9k Aero felt solid and well crafted.

I'd put up with a lot for a 5.7 under the bonnet though...
