LTR/S3
Driving myself mad here deciding what to get next, currently looking at the S3 and the LTR, liking the idea that they are quick as standard and still have plenty of scope.
Apart from the traction advantages of the Audi and it having a better interior are thay otherwise similar a proposition, drove a chipped S3 and its one of the quickest things I have driven (sad I know).
So I want, five seats, over 200 bhp, reliability, reasonable safety, tuning potential.
Any suggestions ?
Have ruled out
Clio 182 - too small, too badly built, reliability ?
S60 T5 Volvo - Not quite ready for that yet
Fabia VRS - Contracting so not so worried about fuel
CTR - I like torque, dont think it would suit me in that respect
BMW 330/M3 - too expensive for age and mileage.
Supra - Too old now, potential for financial ruin, most ruined by flip paint and other horrors
Scoob - Missus hates them with a passion
Another Saab - Nah
Focus ST - Dont really want to spend that much, ditto VXR, but could lease I suppose but not sure of the tax implication being new to self employment limited companies but suspect there would be quite a tax burden on something like and ST.
Mercs ?

LTR
Do you mean LCR? (Leon Cupra R?)
If so then i would reccomend this Quick, stylish, very well equipped and easily tunable Same engine as S3/TT but a little quicker on the move having less weight and being FWD. They respond very well to a remap as does the S3/TT. (270/290lbft)
£12k should buy you a 2005 plated LCR, however if you were to go for the S3, your £12k would probably only buy you a 2002/2003 plated car.
New S3 is very nice but at £30k very expensive.

I know there more or less the same car (apart from 4wd in s3) and although initially more expensive, think the Audi would hold its value better and its got a better image than the Leon. The leon (particularly earlier ones) seems to be going the same way as the CTR and attracting chavvy/boy band haircut type of drivers. Maybe this would'nt bother you and fair enough but i'd personally take the Audi.
