Freelander info
Hello
anybody got first hand experience of a 5dr Freelander 2.0 Diesel?
My mate (non petrol head) has just bought an 02 plate example and he's struggling to get above 25mpg. I think thats to be expected with 4wd and approx 1600kg to drag about. He's expecting more....

sister in law has one
proper dog**** vehicle
they had a petrol one, got rid of it because the alarm was playing up,
got a diesel, the head went, they took it back , and sold her a dearer one,
head went again . and so far this one has been alright for about six weeks,

02 Plate, is that a TD4 (BMW) or the earlier Rover engine?
Either way they are down on power and torque compared to modern diesels. The turbo's are pre-vnt so suffer lag and hardly any performance off boost.
Then there is the weight and 4X4 losses.
If he's mainly town driving and short trips then I would say 25-30mpg is about right.
Cheers

The missus had an '01 TD4 from new and ran it for 70k miles, replaced it with an '06 TD4, both returned 450+ miles from a tank with ease.
It's how you drive 'em
