Question Loan car speed restrictions

A chap at work has a Toyota Aygo loan car - he had it flat out on the motorway and swears it is limited to 70mph - it never went above that speed no matter what he tried.........

Anyone heard of this I know it is obviously possible, but wouldn't it need a 'map' to achieve this?!?!?

You could do this with a black box quite easily. Must get their insurance down.

Im surprised its legal, imagine pulling out to pass a car which is doing 60, and getting stuck at 70 with traffic hurtling towards you

If I was an insurance company I'd probably put the premium up. What happens when someone driving it, doesn't know its there and goes to perform a manouver or overtake and gets caught out!

Nahhh surely not! If they did, then wouldn't they be obliged to tell him for all the reasons in the posts above?

I seem to end up in hire cars very often, never had this issue. And I do like to test out the durability of them too
