Default HPi check does not match Body plan

I went to see a Golf GT TDi PD 150 last week and placed a deposit on the car. The car was immaculate with full VW Dealer stamped service history from new.

I decided to perform an Hpi check on the car as I will be picking the car up tomorrow. It all came through Green based on the reg however the Body plan on the HPi says saloon although all other details are correct.

I will be checking tomorrow the:

VIN (Chassis Number)

V5 Registration Document Serial number

V5 Registration Document issue date

What do you think, the car is coming from a respectable middle aged owner who really doesnt look the type to be trying to stitch someone up.

Anyone ever heard of HPi having the Body Plan wrong? It's actually a 5 door hatchback.

Any advice welcome.

Thanks

My reciepts from Land Rover dealers always show my car as being a 3 door - when in fact it is a 5 door 7 seater...

It's worth checking with HPi if this is likely to be a paperwork mistake and if their waranty would be affected should a subsequent problem arise with the vehicle.

Isnt a golf saloon a Bora?
I thought they only did golf in hatch and estate
Although I am ignorant when it comes to VW's
My guess - Clerical error - but like you I'd run the numbers

It is possible the golf is an EU import therefore could have been registered as a saloon...??? Check the 1st service/PDi in the service book - this will tell you if it has come from outside the uk depending on the dealer stamp....

I had a Passat TDi 2001 Sport that was an eu import and on the V5 said saloon even though it was a 5dr estate....! IMO nothing to worry about though.

My old fella had an Escort XR3i mk5 cab that said estate on the V5 a long time ago.... Human error is more likely and the car should be ok

Are you sure that all cars aren't saloons on HPI checks? I know when you fill in the EU import documentation the correct answer to the question "Wheelplan:" is "2-axle rigid-body saloon".

"It is possible the golf is an EU import"

The car is an import from the Netherlands, thanks RAF1. It was imported just after the first service the rest are all UK Dealers.

I will give the insurance company the good news tomorrow, I'm sure they will fleece me

Wonder what % they will shove on the premium for that!

On a happy side I drove the car back today and it returned 53 MPG even with some spirited driving.

Cheers everyone for the input
